Homeserve Boiler Repair £215

I just want to add my tuppence here.
My late DH had a policy with Homeserve under it's varuous guises - Servowarm for one - for 20 years. Been without CH or Hot water since Xmas day, engineer (Npower) was available for Christmas day call out, but I figured why ruin two families Christmas Days (bearing in mind how mild it was Xmas week) and arranged visit for Sat 28th.
The part - the fan - is not available until this Thursday, which will be over 2 weeks without these utilities. The small print on the contract states :- In the event that a part needs to be ordered to rectify the breakdown best endeavours to source this part in the quickest available time will be made. In the event that the part takes over 72 hours from the first engineer's visit a payment of £30 will be made towards alternative heating.
The engineer advised me that parts office would be closed over the Christmas period and it would be this week, but safe to say I won't be using this outfit again.
Just a rip off, better off giving a local guy my money than enduring this freezing cold spell like this, I know my electric bill will be huge next month because of the required use of other forms of heating and constant kettle boiling for washing.
Thanks for listeningDC.

Wow, I started a similar post about homeserve today, and I see this thread is dated 2008, so apologies for bumping, but in the interest on continuation it is obvious that absolutely nothing has changed with homeserve and their poor service.
Homeserve have blatantly lied to me today, rendering us 10 days without a boiler - due to their lies in their sales tactics!!
Avoid homeserve at all costs - they will do, and say absolutely anything to avoid fixing a service you pay them for.
Do a quick search on Google for 'homeserve complaints' and you will see thousands of serious complaints made against them, including some in national newspapers by their unsatisfied customers!!0 -

10 days is nothing im going over 2 months now they gave me 15 quid compensation which is nothing for havig to live without hot water for that long.
They have fitted 2 parts 5 visits in this time but still not fixed now its endless lies on the phone. They did try to get out of contract buying saying boiler was not serviced but it was then they had to carry on fixing but becasue Storm heating are clueless enginers. My only choice next is to give them notification that ill have to get a local guy out and forward them the bill.0
