Alliance and Leicester Rip Off

I spent 25 mins waiting to speak to A&L last night about my esaver account. In the end I put the phone down and found out I was charged £1.50 for the phone call.

It seems the only way you can contact them is by an 0844 number which costs 6p per minute. Their is no email contact and the only alternative number on Saynoto0870 deals with other accounts.

I was going to increase my savings with them but now I am going to close my account (in July when I will not be penalised)

The 6.5% interest rate is good but I will not put up with crap service:mad:

If you close your account your total interest is added, so why wait until July.

The esaver account is a bit different to most others....

'Free withdrawals in July. No interest is earned on the account balance for any other month in which a withdrawal is made. The AER will be lower if you withdraw.'

If you withdraw today that means you lose only a day of interest then?

Try calling A&L 'banking services' through the free A&L credit card number 0800 0688638 [option '2'] in future. They may transfer you to the e saver team once you identify yourself

Yup, A&L kept me on hold for 5 minutes... and didn't want to help me... o/d for 2 days in the current account even tho' I had £6K+ in savings, so have been charged £1 + 35p for a wasted phone call.

I've checked everywhere and you can't speak to them for free (unless you lose your credit card) and they don't have any email contact - rubbish!

Customer service like that has just lost them my business.

Milarky has provided the freephone number in the post above yours.

I have several A&L accounts and can discuss ALL of them using that number.

No problems here - I've always contacted them on the above freephone number about my e-saver and they have always replied to a secure message.

I tried the freephone number that Milarky gave and it would not accept my account number so I could not get any further.

From the info you gave me I have now found out how to send a secure message but it's not quite as easy as you say.
    Click 'help'
    Click 'contact us'
    Click 'Account enquiries'
    only gives the telephone option.

    Click 'help'
    Click 'contact us'
Click' Other ways to contact us'
    gives the secure message option.

Thanks for you help anyway. I have calmed down a bit now:beer:

Register here for your calls and when you use them it will cost 1/2p per minute to call A&L (that's what I do) ;)

Are you sure? The price list doesn't mention 0844 numbers. That's why its a rip off. Most people think 0844 numbers are the same price as 0845 numbers but they are not. 0844 numbers can be TEN TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE.
