    Claims from third parties?

    Accident damge on the car?

The OP is getting the car repaired so there will be no accident damage on the car to see and if any thing happens in the future the insurance company can't prove anything. It could have been before the OP brought the car.

Also I am assuming they are repairing the third parties car thus no claim or record there.

there's no point in getting repairs done without going through the insurance company then, really is there?

    Yes.

If it's cost effective, pay yourself and keep your ncb intact.

If accident does not involve any other party, repair yourself and don't inform your insurer.

However, in case of someone else involved, better inform them - because other party may claim against you anyway. Insurers take dim view of you if they are informed about claim via other party.

Hello, thanks for your answers. It's a neighbour who is going to get someone to do the work who has worked on his car before. So we said obviously let us know how much and we'll settle it. He's only a few scratches on his.

When you go to get a quote renewed, I am sure the wordings usually something like "have you had an accident in the last 5 years", they don't put "have you had an accident in the last 5 years that you have claimed?"

Typical, that my renew is up soon too!
