do you still have to let the car insurance co. know ....

.... if you have an accident and get the work done without claiming through the insurance companies?

Thanks.

My OH seems to think you have to.

Technically (not sure about legally) yes, you should let them know. Personally I wouldn't.

Iv'e read too many stories on this site about people informing their ins cos of an incident that they didn't want to claim for but it gets put down as a claim anyway.

If you read your policy you will see that you must do so.

Faillure to could mean that they refuse to pay out over any other incident in future on the grounds that you failed to declare, plus refuse you cover which could make it hard to get cover elsewhere.

That would be completly irrelevent in the underwriters eyes.

Fact is, you are a higher risk than before.

so even if I pay for the repairs myself, and not claimed through insurance, my insurance will still go up?

    Thanks for your help.

Just did something stupid, backed out of drive into the front of my opposite neighbour's car. I was just congratulating myself the other day of not having a car accident for a few years (not that I was a serial car accident person thingy :p )

I should have known better, everything happens in 3's. In my case 4's. Son knocked two pots of paint over in Asda, causing an almighty mess, next day at Asda a bag holding a hot roast chicken and all it's juices split at the till , and then the dogs I'm looking after (badly obviously) decided to knock somebody off their bike - by rights I'm due a lottery win to even it up?

So how do you know that the base risk of the policy has remained the same?

How would they know though if you have had an accident if its never declared? They cant prove it.
