Actually if you are using a dvd player there is a big diff between + and - many standard dvd drives don't support both types so make sure you get the type that match it.
If you are using the pc to show the pics drives that play both discs have been in popular use longerclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
mdbarber, I can't say you are wrong, I always use -R disks, and i've used then successfully in a lot of dvd players, others here report the same with +RUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

The DVD-R format was developed by Pioneer in the autumn of 1997. It is supported by most DVD players, and is approved by the DVD Forum. In a DVD-R, the addressing (the determination of location of the laser beam on the disc) is done with additional pits and lands (called land pre-pits, or "LPP" addressing system) in the areas between the grooves. The groove on a DVD-R disc has a constant wobble frequency used for motor control etc.
In 2002 a new format was developed called DVD+R (or "plus" R). Created by a coalition called the DVD+RW Alliance, this format uses a number of improved technologies that, while generally unnoticeable to the end user, make a more reliable technology. One example is the ADIP (ADdress In Pregroove) system of tracking and speed control used by DVD+R being less susceptible to interference and error than the LPP (Land Pre Pit) system used by DVD-R, which makes the ADIP system more accurate at higher speeds. In addition, DVD+R(W) has a more robust error management system than DVD-R(W), allowing for more accurate burning to media independent of the quality of the media. Additional session linking methods are more accurate with DVD+R(W) versus DVD-R(W), resulting in fewer damaged or unusable discs due to buffer under-run and multi-session disks with fewer PI/PO errors. There is a slight trade-off, DVD+R capacity is slightly lower at 4,700,372,992 bytes, compared to DVD-R's 4,707,319,808 bytes - about a ~6Mb difference.
Since DVD-R is older, it is more likely to work in legacy (pre 2004) readers so I use that format if unsure of the playback device. Personally I use DVD-R for movie / video (since I want it to play no matter where / what I am playing it in) and DVD+R for data archives (since I have newer drives in my server and don't care if it will work in my PIII laptop, I want a reliable, quick burn
The Verbatim brand I use specifically since their AZO dye sublimation is alleged to be one of the best in the industry and boasts a 100 year shelf life, and dominates my collection. I have had issues with budget media and some are not readable after rough handling after only a year so I keep a few around only as loaners

more progress made, in as much as I can now explain the Nero thing/procedure and hope we will succeed. My DVD is recordable (Panasonic).
When the guy installed it, we were shown how to record to hard drive, which we do. He told us we could transfer anything to a disc and he left us one to experiment on, but we haven't dared yet.
BUT, we have had to record a few things for our daughter and she is hoping we have transferred them to disc, clearly this weekend promises to be interesting. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
here are afew tips
if you click and hold down the left mouse button over a number off pitures you can scroll it along the top and down the side until they are appear blue then right click on them and send them to your dvd-rw drive then once they are copying to that you can walk away and do something else...
also
make a new folder by
right click on a empty space either where your photos are or on your desktop
scroll to new and click on new
this will make a new folder for you which you can name "photos"
then put all your photos into that so that they are all in the same place...
if you use nero then this is different as it'll bring up the folders and you can click on it and add from there...
the amount of space on a dvd is usually 4.7gbs
you can fit 2000 photo's into a slideshow...
although you can fit about 1000 prints negatives and slides into a dvd
I also found this and thought you might like to have a red of it and see if you would rather use that to nero...

I have just had another thought...if you have a PS3 you could put the pictures/photo's on to a usb dongle then transfer them on to your PS3 via the usb port on the PS3 and view them that way....

Ice, thanks is to thank someone for advice, not for just anything they post...0 -
You might think I'm an old duffer, (which I probably am), but I have just done something for the first time.
At random, I selected half a dozen photo's in picasa and put them in a new folder, highlighted them, inserted a disc (which I've had for yrs and had not used), clicked on transfer to disc and away they went. I then was able to view those selected pics from the disc!. So very simple. I now intend (when time permits) to ensure all my pics are on a disc/s. I suppose I will now need to know how many pics will go on a disc.
The thing is, if I can do it, surely my daughter should be able to. I don't know anything about this nero thing, why is it necessary to use that? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
