Our daughter has just returned from the Falklands, with I am told, over 1000 photographs which she has transferred from camera to her laptop. She has asked if the is a cable that she can connect from her laptop to our (flat screen Panasonic viera) TV so that we can view them in the TV rather than the laptop.
If there is, what do I need to know in order that I can buy one.
As an aside, she tells me she was intending placing them in Nero to burn to CD I think, but it was taking an eternity. But as I know nothing about this, I can't help.

Depends what output your laptop has, and what input your TV has.
Many laptops support S-Video (a small round socket, with a arrow pointing to a TV as an icon), but also if you TV is flat screen it may well support a direct SVGA (monitor input) from the laptop, or via a converter.
If you have a DVD player that supports JPEG, you can easily burn 1000 photos to a DVD and watch them on screen too!0 -
On my Panny there is a flap to insert the memory card, front right..does yours? You can use the laptop "monitor output" socket to go into the TV, you need a long video (15 pin 'D' plugs) lead. You might also have a lead already a s-video ?0

yes there is not sure what it is called but you should have got one with your tv if you got a new LCD tv lately...I know I did with mine...have you got a dvd player that plays kodak cd's or cd-rom cd+rom or dvd's as you can just put them on to a dvd and bung it in to your dvd player and press play..cable is called PC-VGA IN I've actually got one with the tv that I don't want if you PM your address I can send it off to you free of charge it shouldn't cost that much to send and I was only gonna put it in the loft so you might as well have it...ice:D

First of all, thanks for that offer Ice, what I need to do now is to get my head round this and have my tea. When I speak to my daughter later this evening, I will see if she has made any progress and then get back to you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Slight progress!. Having spoken to and read your posts to my daughter, we both agreed it might be better after all, transferring them to disc.
The question now is HOW? neither of us have done this before.
How many discs would we require?
What type of discs do we need to buy, (once the pics are on, they will not be removed).
I happen to know that she tends to hold the camera in horizontal and vertical positions and I normally have to manually straighten them once they are on my PC (picasa). We would want them all the right way up before burning. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I like to use windows movie maker.......... and make a slideshow, put some nice music as a background, some fading and effects etc etc, then burn them off as a dvd.... got some cracking slideshows of Gracelands, Egypt, Christmas and to be honest with the music and effects you dont bore the pants of anyone you want to show the pics to..............
How many discs depends on the slideshow
I use dvd-r although dvd + will do as well
I have nothing better to do!!!!

Using Nero is the easiest way i think but might vary depending on your version open "Nero Startsmart" go to Photo and Video and click on "Make photo slide show" there may be two options SVCD or VCD either should work fine.
Clicking this opens "Nero Vision" the right hand panel allows you to right click and add files clicking the alarm clock button near the bottom allows you to set durations for files to be shown. Click Next when your at the menu selection you can change title menu's i usually turn these off (top right drop down box) now its pretty much a matter of putting in a disc and burning it.When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -

probably easier to explain why marmite tastes horrible to me, and lovely to wifey. There are technical differences, but they don't really matter to most of us, some people like +R, some -R, we are all right! (I like -R)
