Price of a cruise

You could use the "spare" money to see if you can upgrade the cabins. You won`t get any money back but you might get more for it.0

I agree thats a lot of money. You have correct information regarding American Travel Agents as long as final payment has not taken place. Last year our NCL cruise reduced in price considerably and we had used an American TA We requested the TA to approach NCL which she did. Their answer was no, so I immediately cancelled (the money was back in the bank within 2 days) and rebooked the same cruise with another Agent. I wondered if she really had asked as of course it could affect her commission. Lots of people on cruise critic said it couldn't be done, but others said it could. Apparently they look out for names and addresses but personally I think they have more to do. Anyhow, it saved us a fair bit of money. Go back into the TA (don't do it over the phone) and ask them if they can get you some on board credit. It won't be £700 but anything is better than nothing. If you cancel, you will almost certainly loose your deposit. By the way, you have nothing to be afraid of by using the American Travel Agents. One of them even has a free phone number for you to use.

Thanks for that.. I will try to get into TA asap.... btw we paid £1200 deposit...a lot to lose if we did cancel and rebook0 -
Hi,
I don't wish to pry, but £1200 is an awful lot of money. How many passengers are going? I have just booked a cruise (UK Agent by the way) for August and the deposit was £100 each x 2. Sally0 -

Its for a family of 4... it is a lot of money I agree....but I know someone else who booked with Carnival via another agent and was also charged £1200... it must be Carnivals policy0 -
Hi,
I've just had a quick look on Carnivals web site and couldn't see any reference to the amount of deposit required. So I looked on one of the American cruise sites and actually they would want $2000 depost for 2 Adults and 2 children so there isn't a lot of difference in the amount you have paid. I definitely would still go into the TA's office and face them head on. Its worth a visit, you have nothing to loose at this point and hopefully, at least, some on board credit if they are feeling benevolent. If you cruise again, never ever get just the one price and like another poster has said, do try the American agents. Its all done online, you even print your own tickets/boarding passes out and any literature they send comes by Global priorty air mail. By the way, the Baltics is a fab cruise, the ports of call are really good and if the kids join the 'kids club' you will think you have lost them!!!!0 -

Just to let you know this is our 5th cruise and I never only get one quote... in fact I had 6 quotes from online TA`s and local TA`s... the one I chose was cheapest at the time. The kids love cruising .... we have a job getting them off the ship at ports of call... and its a struggle getting them to sit down and eat with us ! Thanks for all your efforts and I will let you know any outcome0
