Price of a cruise

Can someone out there advise me please ? I booked a cruise for my family in Jan to travel in August, I now find the price for this cruise has been reduced considerably. I phoned the travel agent to ask for a reduction but had no luck. I understand that in the USA if the price of a cruise goes down after booking then the reduction is immediately passed on to the customer. Does this not apply in the UK and why not if it does in the USA ? Thanks for any advice you can give

Would you have been happy to pay a considerable surcharge if the price had gone up?

Can you cancel and re-book at the lower price?

Youre right - US agents will usually give refunds upto final payment 3 months before cruising. Here........youll be lucky to get anything except maybe some ship-board credit.

Are you by any chance on the 14 day Med cruise on the Norwegian Jade? At £899 for mid-August, that is now a real bargain.

My outlaws are on one of the discounted NJ cruises. I don't dare tell them,it'll break their heart.

I saw the August one but it's the wrong dates for us, which is a pity.

heavy cancellation costs means its not worth it... we`ll have to grin and bear it I suppose.

    Hi,
I agree thats a lot of money. You have correct information regarding American Travel Agents as long as final payment has not taken place. Last year our NCL cruise reduced in price considerably and we had used an American TA We requested the TA to approach NCL which she did. Their answer was no, so I immediately cancelled (the money was back in the bank within 2 days) and rebooked the same cruise with another Agent. I wondered if she really had asked as of course it could affect her commission. Lots of people on cruise critic said it couldn't be done, but others said it could. Apparently they look out for names and addresses but personally I think they have more to do. Anyhow, it saved us a fair bit of money. Go back into the TA (don't do it over the phone) and ask them if they can get you some on board credit. It won't be £700 but anything is better than nothing. If you cancel, you will almost certainly loose your deposit. By the way, you have nothing to be afraid of by using the American Travel Agents. One of them even has a free phone number for you to use.

If you can be flexible with your dates, I would advise anyone who wants a cruise to check prices on a USA specialist site such as vacationstogo and bestpricecruises. There is so much competition now that prices have dropped to bargain levels. I booked my Jade cruise through vacations to go. It was quoted at the time (October last year) on most British agencies at £899, I paid £500 ! Departing on 30th May. Very easy to do business with, either online or by phone (even have a free phone number).
