Advice on moving shares into ISAS please?

Hi
Proud of myself this year. Took the advice and got my act together, now have a cash ISA with £3,000 for 2007 and £3,600 for 2008 with Alliance and Leicester @ 10%. Now turning my attention to the hazy, scary world of share ISAs.
I have dribs and drabs of shares I have collected from various building societies over the years when they changed in some way (Not sure what it was all about). Now have small pockets of shares in Halifax, LLoyds TSB, Standard Life and Bradford & Bingley. Should I pull them together and put them in a stocks and shares ISA? If so how and with whom?
The next step would be to add to them to top up to full allowance. Is that a good idea right now (vis a vis the recent stock market performance). Any replies in very basic language please as I have an automatic financial language filter which automatically turns it to Greek. (Which I haven't a clue about)
many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately you can't just transfer them, they have to be sold then bought back under the ISA tax wrapper. For small amounts spread over several shares it's probably not worth it.0
