Bathe it in warm salty water and if it becomes inflamed or painful to the touch take him to the vets as it might be infected. It should heal by itself provided it's not too deep and is kept clean.
Poor Charlie! I grew up with a cat named Charlie and he was run over, leg smashed up, but all was repaired so lucky too
aww...
he's let me clean a little bit but then will try to get awy. he has been licking it himself so i'm hoping it wont be another vet trip.
the cuts are on both top and bottom of the base of the tail so its quite hard to do.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
If in any doubt just go to the vet. Licking is useful to a degree but if he does it too much it can be harmful so he may end up with a buster collar
- fingers crossed!!

Thanks for your help'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
I know vets are expensive but if you have an injured or ill pet you NEED to take it to the vet, especially as you suspect puncture wounds!
Best wishes to you and Charlie, I know what a worry cats can be!!0 -
Many powerful cat will attack cowardly dog, in order to compete for sites0

quick update- had to take Charlie to vet yesterday as he was not getting any better. turns out his tail had got an abscess on it where he had been bitten, had to stay over night and the abscess burst
so he had to have it all cleaned and drained. has had an anti-biotic injection and has to have painkillers every day. goes back on Monday for a chek-up to see how its healing.
vet said it was most likely another cat that bit him as cat bites can easily get infected.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Hope Charlie makes a full n' speedy recovery!

Typical, they often get abscesses from bites as there's so much bacteria on their teeth (happened to me as well when bitten by stray cat, ouch!). She will get better quickly now with the antibiotics :TWeight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0

My family have always had greyhounds and I have had two myself, and to be quite honest if your neighbours thought their greyhound wouldn't be able to scale something 3 or 4 feet high they are not fit to own the dog.
I am absolutely disgusted with them ... totally disgusted ... I have heard of a greyhound scaling a 6 feet high fence. If they see something small and furry, their chase instinct kicks in and they will scramble their way up and over anything to get to it.
It's just bl**dy ridiculous when people say they have trained their greyhound not to chase ... as with a little Jack Russell terrier, they have that instinct. If you get a greyhound that lives happily alongside cats and smaller dogs, consider yourself lucky.
My two greyhounds lived happily with a Yorkie and a Chihuahua and as much as I adored them there is no way I would have left them all alone ... and neither would I have let my greyhound in the garden unsupervised.
As I say, if they see something and their hunt instinct kicks in, they would go through a brick wall to chase it .. they go stone eyed and see nothing else (and hear nothing else, believe me), they are just hyped up in a frenzy and you will not be able to control them with voice alone.
When I had my greyhounds, I NEVER let them off the lead in a park. They were on retractable leads so they could wander off a bit but as soon as I saw another dog (whether that dog was on a lead or not) then I would shorten the lead and bring them to heel. It sounds as though I am making greys out to be nasty dogs .... nothing could be further from that. I love my greyhounds and they make very gentle, laid back pets and wonderful companions, but you can never 100% trust them around anything small and quick so it is down to their owners to KNOW that and to flaming well do EVERYTHING possible to ensure their greys do NOT hurt or maim any other animal.
When I had my greys, my fence was 8 feet tall and even then I had some thick trellis attached to the top of that. Apart from which, the dogs were NEVER on their own in the garden.
If people are going to take on one of these beautiful dogs, they need to recognise that the chase behaviour is natural to greyhounds so you need to provide a safe environment for your dog and for everyone else ... I shudder to think what might have happened if that dog caused a car accident whilst it was chasing ...
I wish I knew where this poor dog lived ... it's an accident waiting to happen. It's obvious the owners either don't know or couldn't care less about what it takes to responsibly own one of these lovely dogs.
I really hope your little cat goes on okay ... I use warm water to which a bit of sea salt has been aded to bathe anything like that but I would hesitate to recommend it if Charlie has cuts and puncture wounds ... I'd stick to warm water at least to keep any dirt out, but I would be tempted to boil the kettle and let it cool down rather than use warm tap water.
Edit: didn't see the post about the abscess ... that's brilliant news that it's popped. Poor things can feel so ill with those, so at least it can't grow any bigger. My own cat got bitten on her leg, got an abscess and her leg swelled up three times the size of the other leg ... I had visions of her having to have it amputated!!! It's amazing how quickly the anti b's kick in and make them feel better though!
I hope you get somewhere with the dog owners ... but frankly it sounds like they couldn't care less ... and why weren't they keeping an eye on the dog to know it had got out???
Some people ..... ggggrrrrr0 -
