  • No TV through there.. can get radio on my mobile, suppose I could try sticking that on. I'll go and try again in a bit.

M&S - don't feel too left behind at 23! I'm five years ahead of you and still not finished my degree.. and am faaar from settled down. You've got plenty of years ahead to be 'grown up' in!

Ok red, I'll remember that. :)

And re sleeping, usually when I am having trouble, I lay there and deliberately think about nothing. I read somewhere that if you imagine a kind of shop in your mind, shelves laden with stuff, each representing a different worry, thought, whatever. And then imagine the shelves slowly being emptied. Works for me sometimes. :)

  • OK Red, so you have to give them no room to wiggle on the more experience thing. I do a lot of recruitment (different postions but principle, I think, is the same) it is all about the examples you give. If they feel like well rounded stories then they come across much better so the golden rules are:
    1) explain the scenarion and what had to be delivered
    2) explain what your role was in the example
    3) make it clear what the outcome was
    4) have a 'i learned this/would do this differently next time' up your sleeve to impress them

Oh and for the manager thing, I find that when I interview we focus on when someone was leading a task (see the blah above but make it about leading a team and especially sorting out resource or lack of time issues) and then we probe how well people know when to deal with staff stuff themselves and when to kick disciplinary procedures in to play.

am probably teaching grandmother to suck eggs - in which case sorry, I just have to do loads of these and these are a few of my tips when I am interview coaching people.

    Ooh M&S that's a big one!! :p

Thanks for the advice, I have started to prepare answers - have had a couple of interviews at the same place so roughly know what the format's likely to be. Not tried a practise one - always thought I'd feel really silly - but I might grab someone and try that out!

  • For any Dr Who fans...a comedy spoof of The Doctor's Daughter episode, made me LOL so much today, as the Doctor character really has Dave down to a T. :D

Tell me about it ... love having shiny red hair, love it less dying it ever 4 weeks. Tho the dye here is about £2.50 and perpetually on sale so not too bad really. Dreading going back to blonde as that'll be a hairdresser job...

That's really useful, thanks Poor (my 'thanks' button seems to have vanished!). Would you mind if I dropped you a PM tomorrow with a few questions on the whole thing?

Gonna try the sleep thing again - thanks for all your company and advice everyone, have a nice night xxx
