Renault Laguna New Version

Are they a good buy for a 2nd car, anyone got one that could say if they are happy with it. car has 76,000 on a Y [2001] its the 1.6 Expression. my g/f wants a change from her 2000 model focus zetec and i can get her a good new version from independent dealer at a good price. just think as the focus is a medium sized car this new laguna is a lot bigger is'nt it, doubt it will even go into our garage as focus only leaves about 1 foot at back spare. I think the 1600cc engine petrol laguna may be underpowered as it,s not really a big engine. whats the weak spot in the engine " cambelt/head gasket" ???

    Stick to the Focus...

You ask what the weak spots are on the Laguna II - well, pretty much all of it!
1994 - 2000 were the best ones! Then the new shape came out and it went down hill from then!

They suffer ENDLESS electrical problems. Some silly little gimmicky ones. Otheres just down right annoying...!

Renaults from this era are notoriously poor.

One bloke wrote to Honest John asking him why he kept on "picking on Renault". Honest John replied that the cars from this period were very unreliable and that his letters reflected his postbag.

If the car is an automatic then avoid it like the plague. I have 3 friends who have automatic Renaults and all 3 have needed new gearboxes.

    I ran 4 Laguna's:

P reg 2.0 RXE - water pump failure.
    P reg 2.0 RT - perfect.
    T reg 1.8 RT Sport 16v - perfect.
    X reg 2.0 RTi 16v - perfect.

Wouldnt DARE try a new shape one!

Apart from the free test drives Renault/Avis are doing, of course...

you open the doors with a card not a key,you start it with a button not a key. im not 100% but the cards will probably be very expensive to replace.at least if the remote on the focus stops working its a slight inconvenience using the key, imagine not having that option?
i know a lot of cars nowadays have keyless entry but i doubt this is reliable on the laguna.

Well I'm a Renault fan at the moment. We have 2 meganes and a clio in the family and have had 3 others before. All have been as faultless as could be expected over an average of 4 years or so ownership.

But there were 2 models with real problems in recent years. The Mk11 megane from about 2001 to 2004, and the "new" laguna of the same ages.

For what it worth as they all suffer similar problems the 1.6 petrol is the worst, the VVT pulley, coil packs being the main issues.

Also we had a 2.0 laguna estate 2001. It had done 106,000 miles by 2005 but had to be fitted with it's 3rd replacement clutch to get rid of it.

Edited to say this was a sales maagers car not mine luckily:rotfl:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I have a new Laguna III Sport Tourer (Estate) 2.0dci 150bhp. And so far it has beaten my expectations. I was supposed to be getting a new Mondeo, but due to ordering issues i.e. it's been 4 months since I placed the order with ford and it was going to be a least another two months before we get the car. We cancelled the order.

The Laguna is only 4 days old and so far has been very good. Although only has 662 miles on the clock. But I have done one 220 mile trip and was very comfortable.

So far so good, I’ll let you know if it breaks down.

    Regards

    GD
