Can I download a European map to my TomTom for free?

Hiya,

I am looking to download a European map to my TomTom but I don't feel that I can warrant £40 for the one off the TomTom website. Is there anywhere I can download it for free?

TIA

No. Plenty of sites you can steal it from but then that would make you no better than a shoplifter.

If you don't want to pay the £40 for a whole map of europe then go and try to buy printed paper maps and navigate another country yourself.

Sat nav maps are well worth paying for.

If it is for the standalone TomTom unit, the Europe map also incorporates the UK so you will benefit from an updated UK map as well.

£40 is well worth it for the whole of Europe.

I don't really know, but there may be some online discount place that will sell you it, erm, discounted! Then again maybe not, just an idea. I'm sure someone will correct me.

I would disagree with you on that one. Theft is taking something off someone, so you have it and they don't. What we are talking about is copying something, of which there are an unlimited number of copies, so both you and they have it. So although it is still illegal I wouldn't say you are reduced to the level of shoplifter. I'll be the first to admit that probably around 3/4 of my music collection has been downloaded through, erm, shall we say unscrupulous means.

A book is a copy of something, so if you steal a book from a shop you're not a shoplifter?

    Hi lokolo, we meet again!
No, thats different, I am talking about a copy of data, with no physical medium, not books or CDs.

I don't think the OP was asking to do anything illegal - at least I couldn't spot it in his post? Seemed like a genuine question to me, to which Browntoa answered the question pretty comprehensively in the second post. Why the need for any other responses - apart from someone who may have a genuine free alternative to Tom Tom's own software? There seem to be far too many 'judges and jurors' of other users of these forums. Give it a rest why don't you?!

Thanks for all replies, didn't realise I would cause such a stir! I wasn't asking for anything illegal just wanted a cheaper way if at all possible. ;)
