Living and Renting in Dover

Does anyone live in Dover?
I am contemplating moving there and renting either an apartment or small house.
What is it like to live in Dover? Is it impossibly busy being near the cross channel ferry? Are there some areas to avoid? I have looked on several property websites but have no first hand knowledge of the area.
Any information would be really useful.

I am a snob (and proud of it!) but FWIW I reckon Dover is a hellhole. Folkstone is nicer, the countryside a little inland much better.
Dover? Just say no.0 -

Thanks for the links - not a lot on Dover though I'm afraid.0 -

Hawkinge does look lovely - but not a great deal to rent. If you have any other recommendations I would be grateful.0 -
