My last 0% card was obtained without a (Experian etc.) credit check - my bank.

I would have thought that even if you get a card through your bank, unless you hold the top premiuim account with loadsa cash in, they will still do a credit check.

    ;)

No - they didn't use any of them. I acquired it during one of those meetings banks usually invite you to to sell you stuff. Using prior information they had about my bank account, they were immediately able to offer me a £10,000 (non-0%) overdraft and a £10,000 0% CC for 6 months. I took them up on £500 overdraft (just in case) and the card. No search was evident when I checked my credit reports a month later.

Oh, cool! have to wait for my invite then! LOL

No - I refused a normal overdraft of £10,000 which would probably affect my credit rating when I apply for other cards - it was just the CC that was 0% :)

Re MBNA lying re credit check - my job is to promote the &more card for M & S in store. The consumer credit act was amended on 31st May this year to ensure that customers are fully aware what they are signing up for. You should be given pre contract information to read before completing any application which explains all about the credit check and all the terms and conditions. They are breaking this act by not doing this. If I completed an application form in store without giving a customer the pre contract info to read and take away with them and did not answer any questions correctly, I would be in serious trouble. MBNA are breaking the terms of this CCA.

As I said earlier, I have complained to MBNA and THE NATIONAL TRUST, although it was RDWARR that it happened to, I have said it was me and demanded an explanation, before I "take matters further".

    Lets see what they say.

I got an e-mail back from National Trust telling me that they have passed my complaint on to head office and they will contact me direct. Nothing from MBNA yet though.

I will keep you fully updated.

    Thanks Niteflyer.

I have not yet complained to MBNA or the National Trust but I have to Welcome Break to see if the problem can be tackled at source. I will follow up with MBNA etc. later though.

Thanks also to the poster who said it was my fault for being stupid enough to get stopped. There is sometimes a fine line between politeness and gullability which I almost crossed this time. I'm sure this is not a problem for you
    Can I help?

My tactic is to stop.. listen for a few seconds.. say "Reallllllyyy!!!" to whatever spiel they are offering me in an incredulous tone.. and then bluntly walk away.
