Just totted up my food spends over the last few days, and I’ve got £8.92 to last me until Friday – but I should only need to buy bread so will scrape in.
I’ve definitely taken my foot off the pedal with this month’s GC, so must get back on track with my menu planning for June.
Next month will be just 3 weeks as we’re off on our hols – I’ll post my target and this month’s final figure when I’ve done my final shop towards the end of the week.
My spinach, carrots and chilli peppers are starting to peep through, no signs of the yet parsnips – but it has been quite cold, hopefully it will warm up next week.
Welcome to the thread to all the newbies.0 -
So please put me down for £350 again for June Mrs M as my freezer is full to busting and so is the storecupboard as I heeded the warning about price rises on rice and pasta I now have tons of it :rotfl: Should just have to buy fresh F&V only for next month. I know I say that every month I haven't meal planned yet,
Snap, snap, snap
I'm aiming for £350 again Mrs Mc. although I was WAAAYYY over last month (as per), I also have a freezer full and a cupboard which threatens to empty itself on to my head every time I open it. I also keep saying all I need is fresh F&V each month, then go and spend, spend spend :rotfl: I really, really must sit down this week and do a meal plan - and stick to it.0 -

if it makes you feel any better parsnips are notoriously devils for not germinating
Next time -or if you have any seeds left..
put some damp kitchen paper in a tray..dot the seeds on and cover with damp kitchen roll and pop in a plasic food bag in a warm window bottom.. and check daily -misting if they are getting dry.. you will see after a few days that they have little white spurs sticking out... plonk these out in your compost and treat as normal.
I did this and every day a few more were ready to go out.. and now i only have about 4 missing and have over 100 parsnips :T
ooohhhh get me coming over all percy thrower :rotfl:-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I know what you mean Kazz--because we're supposed to be in the 'affluent' part of the world, we have to pay extortionate prices. My cousin oop norf has proper markets alongside a huge variety of supermarket chains, & she couldn't believe the difference in food prices down here:mad:
I live in the "island of millionaires", but most of the population are on average or lower than average incomes but still have to pay hefty prices for things. We only have Mr T and a local supermarket called Shoprite which limits bargains (also Co-op but that's extortionate!)0 -

I know how you feel lol. My batch probably last about 3 days:eek: . OH insists on taking a tub full to work to share with his mates.
Am thinking about starting to charge.:D'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle'0 -
Hi
Well, I think that I need to join in this challenge as I have added up how much we spent last month on food shopping £594.00:mad:
Our problem is that we do a weekly shop and when we need little bits and bobs we all pop off to the supermarket and end up buying things that we don't need.
We have set a budget of £200 and I am hopeful that with some menu planning and cutting back on trips to the supermarket, that we can do this!!!!
My monthly pay runs from the 23/05 until the 20/06 so I have already started but ould love to join you guys if I can:p0 -
sickofhavingnomoney - welcome to the GC!:T just my opinion but you do seem to be trying a big drop in your spending next month, maybe it would be more realistic to do it a bit more gradually so thats its not such a big shock to the family!
Good luck;)Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Hi
I know what you mean about such a drastic cut, however, due to an unexpected bill for my car, I really need to cut back by this much. I am hoping that by being super duper organised, no one will notice I have cut back so much.... I can hope!!!
Thanks for that though :beer:0 -
Hi all
Congratulations Mummygems!! what a beautiful name.
Mumzy - the price of milk is starting to scare me.
I`ve upped my GC money by £5 per week due to price rises and i`ve not worked out yet where i`m going to grab the extra money from to do this:o
Overtime at w**k is pretty scarce at the moment and most people are in the same boat more or less so everyone wants it when it is available.
In my pressure cooker at the moment i have some manky carrots, lots of cauliflower that was going nasty but i cut the bad bits off and 2 onions that were sprouting in the fridge, i might add some potatoes too. I`m making soup but i usually add spices but was wondering about herbs instead i have lots of herbs but not very much sage which i want to save for stuffing tomorrow, does anyone have any ideas as to which herbs would suit this little lot?
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
