I opened a new account yesterday but it still shows the current interest rate as N/A when i view them online. Dont they just show the rate that at which my account was opened or does it have to go through by the HBOS people and then it will be displayed on my window?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If it's a tiered rate ..... have you funded it yet? Otherwise it's scratching it's head and waiting to see what rate to give you!
In short .... been a while since I opened one, and that's the best I can come up with;) As it's been through the overnight Batch .... it should be reflecting some sort of interest rate if there's cash in there. Notice that mine simply changes through a Portfolio closure if I move some money and that changes an interest 'tier'. i.e Logout and back in again. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Thank you.
It is the variable rate web saver with the cash card option. I opened it with £50 last night, if that helps. However, there is not interest rate on my display window. I assume the card/document should arrive in a day or two.0 -
That's the last one I opened. Currently showing 5.75% gross. But I honestly can't remember (it was 6% when I opened it) how long the interest rate took to show. Halifax have recently juggled some of their cut-off times ... so it may be you were a little late for it to fully process last night? May be OK after tonight.
Don't forget to review it 18th July when the bonus lapses? If Halifax don't boost their Web rates ... I will certainly be moving easy access money out once faster payments is fully in (starts 27th May ... but will be incremental). And it makes it easier to move money on the day. Simply can't be bothered with the current 3 / 4 day BACS timeframes. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
superstar,
it is normal (though admittedly puzzling) for the websaver interest rate to be shown as N/A for the first day or so.
I think it has a habit of only displaying the roll-number and not the sortcode & account number for the first day or so, too.Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

Thanks Meltdown.
I got all the numbers, i.e. sort code etc just the rate is not 'visible' yet. I opened this cos my without cash card option pays 4.65% and i want to get than extra 1%.0 -

Thanks, one of the man who replies quickyly with lots of useful info! :T
Yea, i will review it on 18th July. I suspect they would not do anything and start paying the interest minus the bonus. In that case, i should decide to look elsewhere as my without cas card option only pays 4.65% which is way way too low, i know.
I have been thinking of Sainsbury (there's in the same HBOS group but it'll be less than £35K, so no worries there). May be A&L or Abbey. Any particular that you suggest or that you have (based on experience)?0 -

Sainsburys and HBOS are part of the same group, true, but they do have separate registrations with the FSA, so you should be covered for £35K with each institution.Debbie0 -

Have only looked briefly .... but Sainsbury's looks to be a favourite of people who regularly transfer from / to Halifax. However some preparatory work Halifax have just done (ironically for faster payments) means the transfers are no longer 'instant'.
Birmingham Midshires (6.5%) currently looks good for easy access, but bit of a pest it's in the same group. However - as earlier, I'm keeping my options open until faster payments reveals a bit more and I can see where the practicalities lie?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Thanks for the replies. I would probably going to wait as well because the Cash Card web saver that i just opened is at 5,75%. Other ones arent that much of an upgrade, so might as well wait and see what's in store!
Cheers again!0 -
So we'll both be unhappy that they've dropped that rate to 5.5% today (and the normal variable to 4.36%)!
So - despite I was going to wait - I've just opened a BM E-saver at 6.5%.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
