When the cambelt on my Alfa Romeo 147 went a couple of months ago, it caused substantial damage to the valves. To repair everything cost £1,200! But, thankfully, my warranty covered it....phew!

i was thinking that myself,i would be very worried if my cambelt was squeeling like mad.

That happened on my dads Omega while on the motorway. A tensoiner pully failed completely causing it to seize - lots of squealing and smoke followed by a snapped belt and a completely destroyed engine - the car was written off.

Happened to my vauxhall vectra about 6 years ago; sent for dealer service when it was meant to be changed and 5 miles after the service timing belt snapped. Discovered it was the original timing belt and dealer had in fact not changed the timing belt during service. Dealer was made to pay for labour and vauxhall paid for parts (as it was the original timing belt) and cost amounted to £1500 - however this was a vauxhall dealer and I didn't have to foot the bill.

As already said get the garage to whip the head off to acertain the extent of the damage.

I do know of one very lucky person that had the belt go on a 1.4 corsa. Now thats an "interference" engine but in this case there was no damage whatsoever apart from the belt itself, probably due to it going on start up, which is when quite a few do go.

Get an estimated cost then decide.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

No, it didn't, there wasn't even enough time to stop the car.
