BT is indeed not a nice company. I had to pay 125 connection fee even though this property had a BT box. and the biggest proof is that this property had a sky connection and u cant get sky unless u have BT. the engineer who came to install it did tell us that this property already had BT line. BT charged me inspite of numerous letters. they kept on saying that as per their records this property doesnt have BT. i dont have the contact details of the previous tenants nor do the home owner have those details. so its a no-win.
and its a shame that if u r in a non-cable area BT is the only option if u want broadband as well. but now i wud opt for mobile broadband but never give BT anymore of my hard earned money

Hi there...hope you don't mind me saying but this is not strictly true as my BF has sky installed which he bought in a box from Currys and he doesn't have any BT line...although he also has a box that BT want to charge him £125 to reconnect. He has also just signed up for Vodaphones broadband deal which will get him a landline connection through them for £104 which is a bit cheaper than BT then £25 per month after that...see below for the details, We thought BT was his only option to get Broadband but now it seems this isn't so.

You can get sky without a phone line but it'll cost you a one off payment of £25

Does this mean TalkTalk have actually made an effort to improve their customer service? It'd be a big step in the right direction.

I haven't had any dealings with them lately - most of the people I knew who had it have left.

And the TalkTalk Customer Service Man who hangs around this forum is conspicuous by his absence...

Completely incompetent, but not always in a bad way!

In fact I'm jolly happy now after over 2 years with them. £20 for everything is a bargain. I rarely have problems with the internet and never with the phone. Watch out for the 35p per minute to UK mobile phones though!

Yes I was reading a post the other day about someone who had moved their line rental to talk talk but had chosen not to change isp's their internet was completely cut off and as mentioned in other posts the person is now stuck, they either have to take talk talk's broadband, cancel the contract and pay what's outstanding and also pay to go back to BT

Strange, we moved our phone from BT to Talk Talk two years ago and have been using Plusnet Broadband and 18185 and 18866 for calls with no problem. Not sure about moving the broadband over though and their sales people are pretty pushy.

the talk talk guys said the welcome pack wuld be with me in a week. havent got anything form them yet. so now i know why they did such an incredible deal. they now have my bank details and all personal details.

do u guys think it is unsafe to sign up for stuff when approached in person? the reason they have is "this deal is exclusive, and not available online"
this kind of deals is indeed popular with companies like sky. u pay the full price for sky online and the next day u go into morrisons to see the sky ppl doing incredible deals. so it is very hard for us to weed out the sham packages.

    "this deal is exclusive,

Ha! Well, I'm sure that TT must have improved over the years, it's not as if they could have got any worse...

yes if you want a normal BT line again it would end up costing you £125 to move back!

Oh god, I hope that's not the case with Sky, too! I recently switched to Sky landline service (it's cheaper than BT, and we also have the unlimited UK/international calls for 5 pounds a month -- a fee that's waived for the next year). They are messing up getting the landline set up, though I think I will stay with them as they did give us a credit for our trouble. But I really would hate if we ever went back to BT and they charge us to switch! Or if we move out and the landlord wants BT, they may say we have to pay to switch back!
