Delay in payment from Halifax account

I've just done a "bill payment" from my Halifax account online (at about 18:35).
In the old Halifax interface I'm sure it would have scheduled the payment for the next day - Wednesday 30th April. But the new interface offers a calendar where you can select a date for the payment to be made.
I was surprised to see that the first date selectable was Thursday 1st May.
I can't see any reason why my payment should not be scheduled for Tomorrow (Wednesday), but that date is not selectable.
Anyone know why Halifax would make us wait TWO working days before actioning the payment?
