Applied online, got written acknowledgement on 27/3/08 for 08/09 tax year. Account not opened or money taken until 28/4/08. The interest for that month has not been backdated.
I have written a complaint letter to the e-mail address mentioned by skooby. Will let you know how I get on...0 -
I applpied 31st March. Still not opened :-P
I emailed them asking how its getting along, but I stated I did not want my bonus to start until my account is fully opened. If my bonus starts any earlier I will not be happy. I only have £500 at the moment so I want to keep bonus for as long as possible to get rest of the £3100 in.0 -
I also had to trail to bank with details then rang them as the dates were wrong on the welcome pack 2008 instead of 2007 ,the cs said dont worry we know the correct date thats the way it goes out to the customer ,very misleading ,complained nicely ,got a letter back with questionaire to fill out ,last thing I want to do ,after all this mess and bank staff not knowing the first thing about isas.0

Alliance & Leicester is now down to 6%, as is Abbey.
I was thinking of doing the same!0 -
Our ISA "advisor" rang back today following our query about the interest being backdated. He originally said it would be backdated to the day cheque was received.
He told us that Barclays "moved the goal post" after gave us the information and, after expressing our displeasure, he is arranging for a cheque to be sent to both OH and myself for £10 each which he says covers the interest on the £3,600 we each put in on 9th April up to the 14th day.
He confirmed that interest will be paid from the 14th day after initial application and that at present the ISA dept is currently working on the batch prior to ours and ours will be dealt with in a couple of weeks, making it at least 6 weeks from application. This is after he assured us at our interview that Barclays "learned from the mistakes of last year and have laid on extra staff this year and it will only take a couple of weeks to open".
At least we've got the interest out of them. And we definitely wont be going through this fiasco next year!0 -
applied for tax haven isa on 07/apr with a £10 deposit, having learnt not to trust barclays, when last year they took 6 weeks to open my tax beater isa!
a/c finally opened on 29/apr, so i tried to pay in using my online banking but unable to do so.
so 30/apr off to branch to fill in a "fax instruction for isa top up form" to transfer £3590 into a/c .
spent next week waiting for money to transfer earning sod all in interest in current a/c.
so next day went into branch withdrew £3590 in cash to pay in, but you cant do that either, even though their terms and conditions point 2.2 says you can .
finally yesterday 07th/may the isa processing dept in liverpool, transferred the money = at last!!
today 08/may i actually received my welcome pack, how good of them after all this time.
now currently in process of working out lost interest, costs of petrol & parking making 3 trips to branch to use my a/c , ready to put in a complaint and claim for compensation.
will let you know how i get on .0 -
Attended branch 19 March 2008 to open ISA accounts for 2007/2008 and 2008/2009. All paperwork completed by personal banker except National Insurance number. Given direct line number to leave this info on answer machine which I did later that day.
Received call from branch the next day asking for my national insurance number. Explained I had already left message with this info.
28 March 2008
Received 2 separate and slightly different letters acknowledging receipt of applications. One of them (for 2007/2008) included my INCOMPLETE national insurance number so I ring them immediately but give up waiting after 20 minutes and eventually get through on 1 April 2008 and advise them of it again. Lady on the line tells me this will be passed to the 'outbound team' who will ring me back. Confirms all interest will be backdated to application date.
No call back received so I assume everything is now ok.
19 April 2008
I receive a rejection letter for the 2007/2008 application and my cheque is returned. They say that 'despite our best endeavours we have been unable to open your ISA because your application is invalid'.
I am furious and again telephone Barclays who listen politely, give me a complaint reference number and assures me Barclays will reply with 5 days.
24 April 2008
Receive letter telling me I will receive an update no later than..... 19 May 2008!!!
8 May 2008

Here I sit still waiting.0 -
Applied online 6 April 2008 for 2008/9 ISA and opened account with £1. Followed up with a visit to the local branch on 7 April 2008 and they took a cheque for £3,599 for which I have a dated receipt. As of today the cheque hasn't been cashed and the Barclays online banking system doesn't show the new ISA account as having been opened.
The Tax Haven accounts for myself and wife were eventually opened at the beginning of May but the cheques haven't been cashed. After what seemed like an eternity waiting on the phone, I got through to the Barclays ISA Helpline this morning and was advised to cancel the cheques and send in new ones
The adviser said not to worry because, as I had a receipt for the original cheques, the interest would be backdated :beer:0 -
Applied to open account 7th April account opened 6th May cheque cleared current account 8th May.0
