safestyle uk conned me - please help

hi

just under 12 months ago we had new windows and doors from safesytle uk, the sale srep came round one night and said that if we had all the windows and doors it would cos us £2300, and at the time i thouhg it was really cheap, but they are a big company so can undercut the smaller ones.

the rep said that how it works was that they give you the first 12 months payments, (which we recived a chq for £831) and we sign a credit agreement with Ge money, so the total cost of the loan was £3100.

and if we paid the agreement off within 12 months we would only have to pay the difference of £3100 less £831.

well i contacted GE money to pay this off yesterday and they told me to settle the agreement would cost £3149.37, even though we have been paying it for 11 months.

after looking at the agreement in more detail the APR is 26.4%, and was over a term of 10 years.

the safestyle rep did not say anything about the APR or that i would have pay interest if i settled early.

do you think i havce a good case to complain to safestyle saying it was mis-sold, the rep was very aggressive and i remeber clearly that he said that to get the cost of the windows for this price i had to settle the agreement early, because i questioned it at the time with him

there was no problem with the windows or the work, just that we were conned into thinking it would cost £2300, when actually it has cost us more like £3100.

thanks

baron
its only a bargain, if you need it or will use it.

What exactly does the contract paperwork and, more importantly, the consumer credit agreement, state in regards to the points you have raised? It's not what the salesman says to you that counts, it's what's in the contract. If they gave you a cheque for £831, then you have had the benefit of 12 months payments for free.

I'm confused- didn't you get 'cashback' of £831?

I think you should have checked the APR and payment terms before signing anything!

Surely what the salesman says is important, isn't it? Surely that forms a part of the agreement?
I don't know, to be honest, but I would have thought that you would have had a case.

Problem is the salesman can just say they didn't say that, and what can you do? Presumably you've got no proof that the salesman said it (obviously I believe you, but they might not, or might pretend that they don't).

The first thing I'd do is contact SafeStyle and check what they believe the position is. Maybe GE have made an honest mistake?

Yes, which they've used to make the payments for 11 months. (That's my interpretation, anyway.)

A sales rep will say anything to get the dotted line signed.
He will say he never said no such thing and the APR is on the contract WHICH YOU SIGNED as for him getting agressive... hmmm why buy something off a bully?

When buying a pre-registration car, I got £1000 off the price for taking out the finance. Given that I already had cash for the car, I took out the finance to save £1k on the basis that the dealer assured me three times that there was no charge to cancel the finance, and I could do this after just 1 payment.

Roll on 2 months, my other car is sold, I travel by public transport to pick up my new car, and there written on the finance document is a fee for cancellation, and no cancelling until after 3 months...

I had no choice but to sign, as otherwise I would have been left with no car, and would lose my deposit.

A letter to the dealer soon put things right, and I received a cheque for the finance cancellation fee! A sales rep will indeed say anything to make a sale!

Barron777red, do you have any evidence of what this salesperson said other than your word for it? Was anyone else there when he said it?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I had a safestyle rep round - my parents were present because they were visiting so I wasn't making a decision on my own - and I didn't take their finance package.

The rep we had gave us some details about the finance package, including the APR, and I knew that I could add the money to my mortgage at the tracker rate, which was about 3 x lower (although paying off over a longer term).

Since I'm with Nationwide, I can make extra payments to the loan, and have used that facility since coming back from NZ with savings in pocket.
  • Dont safestyle offer BOGOF and 0% on all deals?

My point is, surely they would have difficulty arguing that anything OTHER than 0% should have been applied to the deal?
 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

    hi all

    thanks for the replies

i know i should have checked the APR and the contract, so thats my fault, the main issue is that i was lied to, my wife was there also so she is a witness to what was said, i a distinctly remeber him saying its £3100 for the loan and cashback of £831 takes it to £2269 + 75 set up fee, means you pay £2344.00

he said that the cashback was equivalent to 12 months charges, and if i paid off the £2344 before the 12 months was then thats all i would have to pay.

im gonna write to safestyle and complain, and see what happens
