Yes but the idea of the homecooler is that it takes 7.5 litre bottles rather than the normal 20 litre bottles used in the workplace. Anyone can change them?

Ken, you should put a water filter jug on your next order! Then it'll only cost you the price of a filter each month for your regular supply of the wet stuff.

Hydrogen and oxygen are chemical elements - normally gaseous at normal temperature and pressure....

But water itself is a chemical - just like common table salt is.... I remember when I was at school someone dropped a 5kg jar of Sodium Chloride (read common table salt) on the floor and it made it to the local rag as "Huge chemical spill at school"..... of course the same local rag didn't have a headline "Council spreads tonnes of chemicals over the borough's roads" in the winter......
In that case I consider myself fortunate in not having attended the same school!

Ocado also limit the amount of water you can buy. I've complained to them and they say that it's because their vans have a weight limit that they must keep within. Aside from that, I am a bit surprised that anyone finds Tesco and Sainsbury's satisfactory. Do you not mind having 1 in 5 of your items substituted?

Greenwich, you make a fair point about subs. The issue with Sainsburys (I do not know about Tescos) is that their stock control system sucks, and has been "trashed" in the media a year or so ago.

Until they upgrade it this problem will persist.

Thanks to everyone else for the advice about water filters etc.

I will, in the short term, continue to buy bottled. However, I will take a look around and try to find something sutiable for my home.

my elderly neighbour wouldnt drink the water from a tap and therefore would buy loads of bottled water especially in the summer.. this is great for her but not for me as i take her shopping and carry it in for her.. i asked her why she didnt drink tap water and she said the taste and also heard somthing abt all the stuff in it lol... anyway i solved the prob by getting her water jug and filters now she filters it fills up a few bottles puts in her fridge.. drinks it great not more huge bottles to lug for me and she saves a small fortune..

Do you believe their story about wishing to protect drivers' backs, or is it just a neat way to increase their delivery revenue?

    Ken

This is rubbish. They should ensure all their driver (and all other staff that are involved with moving goods, including shelf stackers) have undergone suitable training in accordance with the Manual Handling Regulations. Are they suggesting that they are in breach of their Statutory duty to their staff as well as the normal duty of care?

With regards to weight limits on delivery vehicles. Again this, I would suggest, is rubbish. What if your delivery consisted of all tinned products, bottles of various fizzy and still drinks (not to exceed 5 packs per item but individually accounting for far more than say 15 packs), boxes of saop powder, bags of potatos, etc, etc. These could easily weigh more than 5 packs of bottled water. I cannot recall what type of vans Sainsbury use bit normally they would be a chilled box type van. They should have a double rear wheel layout and be more than robust to carry whatever is put in them.

This is just a load of chicken and beef (do they still deliver these items I wonder?)

Waster, I am inclined to agree with you.

Sainsburys have been delivering to me for 3 years now, without any complaint until now about the size of my water order.

The health and safety legislation etc has, I guess, been around for that same period of time?

    Their vans are quite large.

They still haven't replied to my email sent on 4th, asking them for reasons as to why I shouldn't switch to Tesco...I even dropped them a reminder yesterday pointing them to this thread.

Evidently they have enough customers, and can do without me:)

  • Consider yourself lucky - that you have a tap that is... All those people in New Orleans with bacteria infested water, and you want bottled water :D

Is it really that bad where you live?
  • I'd always recommend Tesco home delivery over Sainsbury.
