is it possible to recycle punctured cycle inner tubes?

I don't know about inner tubes, but there is a great bike charity which takes bikes to Africa for people to get to work/school/water well etc. If the bike is in a bad condition they use the parts for spares... I don't know if they would be interested in innertubes, but they might be.
