is it possible to recycle punctured cycle inner tubes?

my family are keen cyclist and have to contend with getting punctures and therefore replacing the inner tubes on quite a frequent basis,

does anyone know if there is any way the old inner tubes can be recycled?

How about cutting them up to make your own rubber bands?

As per above but you could use them as plant ties.

I've also seen a technique where with a concrete slab and a syphon tube you can construct a vibration free platform for experiments measuring light wavelengths and the like.

Whole for hanging stuff on hooks in the shed.

Stuff with old T-shirts using a pokey stick and use as a wick for watering tomato plants in the greenhouse. Big bucket one end, wick to growbag.

Do a search for "inner tubes" on www.instructables.com. The site can be horribly addictive ;)

If you are replacing the inners on a frequent basis due to punctures, why don't you just buy a repair kit, fix the holes and use them as spares...?

Fair enough, as a cyclist myself I know how frustrating a puncture can be.

If you are getting a lot though I'd consider thinking about steps you can take to avoid them in the first place, such as replacing your tyres with puncture resistant types, avoiding cycle paths that are shared with pedestrians which can act as broken glass magnets, keeping your tyres pumped up properly etc.

Use the bits where there aren't holes to make patches for the next punctures !
