Blocked pores - Nothings working! please help

What you are squeezing out is the sebum, stuck there through plugging with skin cells.
You need to exfoliate daily to keep the dead skin cells from blocking the pores and you need to deep cleanse as gently as possible to stop the skin producing even more sebum - and you need to moisturise. The skin will go into over drive producing sebum if you use anything too harsh or drying.
The castor oil cleanse method is working here as well, even hubby has said Im looking goodI use 1/3rd castor oil to 2/3 sunflower/olive oil and not only is it working to keep the pores clean, Im producing less oil myself so the t-zone shine is not making an appearence till later in the day. And cos my skin is looking so good Im even forgoing my foundation. for now.
I got my castor oil from Sainsburys Pharmacy counter and I have seen it in loads of chemists - just ask if you dont see it
It says on that link to use Sunflower Seed Oil, is that normal Sunflower Oil?
Whats Caster Oil like? Is it like an oil or a cream?
I read that link, sounds amazing!0 -
Mrs E - you will love it I promise. And although you are really in essence only slapping cheap cooking oil on your face it really does feel luxurious. I really get into it and take my time and really feel like Ive pampered myself.
The link is on the front page of Harry Harps thread on cheap beauty.
Castor oil is oil. When I was a kid it was given to us on a spoon if we ever got constipated (and indeed its still sold for its laxative properties) and my elderly neighbour told me she always took a spoonful in orange juice to aid labour (says they shot out, I say its cos she had 10 kids and was a bit loose))
Ok, just looked at what I actually bought - 100ml Virgin Castor Oil under the care+ label. I got that in Sainsburys in-store pharmacy counter. You can get it in any chemist though, look amongst the laxative treatments. I also got a cheap 500ml bottle of SunOlive (a blend of sunflower oil and 15% extra virgin olive oil) and I bought a couple of those empty 100ml plastic bottles you can buy in Boots for taking liquids on planes.
I just mixed 30mls castor and 70 mls sunolive in a bottle and shook
I start with about a teaspoon in my hands, rub together a bit to warm it and away I go, massaging my face, adding more oil as I need it. When I think Ive massaged enough I just add a wee amount of hand hot water and massage again. It kind of lathers then, not a true lather but the constancy does change. Then I use a huge muslin cloth wrung out in hand hot water to remove all traces of the oil.
I am needing to add moisturiser as Im finding it can be a bit too drying if I use too often. My cheeks are smooth and clean. My nose has vastly inproved with just the centre still needing work (I think thats my method of cleansing that Im not working on that area as well as the other bits). Sebum that can still be squeezed out (or gently pushed now) is white and not yellow and not stinky so I know its not old pore blocking material0 -
I use the botanics range so cleanse, tone & moisturise-its helped with my overly sensitive skin & redness around the nose area. If i exfoliated everyday, my nose would be even redder
, but will give the oil method a try.
Before i got really lazy with my skin, i was using fullers earth on my skin which went a long way in calming it down & stopping spots in their tracks, but no joy on the eternal red-nose
If you have such sensitivity then I would be really wary about using any grainy exfoliater
I thought Id up the anti the other week and tried Elemis and my poor face was killed
Since then its been a strict oil cleanse and muslin cloth routine in the evenings and Tescos organic cleanser in the mornings and for the past three weeks my face has looked near on perfect - just a few patches of Seb Derm still needing treatment. Mind I have to say the Nizoral ointment Im using on the seb derm is bloody potent and does take the odd layer of skin off so I guess Im getting a free chemical peel as I go along)

Really having trouble getting my head around the idea of cleaning my skin with chip fat:o
Sunflower or extra virgin olive oil.
How about 70% Bio-oil & 30% Castor Oil? The carrier oil in Bio-Oil is called PurCellin Oil, do you think that would be any good as the 70% carrier oil in the oil cleansing method.
Is this a bit like the Shu Umera Oil Cleanser idea?0 -
bio-oil is fairly light and would probably work to thin down the castor oil, but you may not get the same benefits of bio-oil as it is removed, and it may not be pure enough to cleanse the way virgin olive oil would..
the only way to find out is to give it a try - your skin will tell you if its liking it!
Not sure about Shu Uemera but DHC deep cleansing oil is basically olive oil, and works on the same prinicipleWe got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic.

I've just managed to buy some Castor Oil. Boots don't sell it anymore so I had to hunt it down in a small chemist. The pharmacist in Boots said that they don't sell it because of European laws!
How peculiar - I bought mine in Boots two weeks ago! I wonder if it is just down to individual pharmacists? Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Why waste the Bio oil by using it as a carrier? Its way too expensive. Honest theres some lovely light oils out there in the cooking oil aisle now days - some of them smell good enough to eat let alone slap on your face
And yes its the exact same as the Shu Oemura concept. Just they added a few herbs, stuck it in posh designer bottles and charge the earth for it.
How about getting yourself a posh bottle and printing up a nice posh label for it to make you feel a bit better? Not being sarky just know you like your "nice" things and hoping that you might just feel better about the idea if it was wrapped up posh0 -
Just to say that i've been using the Oil Cleansing Method for just over a week now (all the time, I've been using it on and off for a year or so) and the difference is incredible!!! I stepped up the caster oil, so now i'm prob using 30% caster to 70% olive oil, and my pores, they've disappeared!! I'm so hacked off with myself for not upping the caster oil earlier!!0
