    Saturday 3rd May

I feel like I have turned into a Money-Saving Dictator  H offered to do the shopping online and I tried to take over, going on about using moneysupermarket.co.uk to compare the trolleys, where to get the vouchers and everything :o:o I know it's a good practice to get into with saving money, but I do feel a bit bad about how 'over-bearing' I was. H rightly told me to !!!!!! off in the nicest possible way, and I have apologised, but it is seriously easy to turn into a 'I know best' woman - I need to be careful of that.

We have the forms to complete to get our references/credit checks done for the house we want to rent. We also took the four girls down to see the outside of the house, the local shops, bus stops etc. This is moving very fast, and we want to try to include them as much as possible. It's a good thing we did - DD2 was tearful because she thought there was something seriously wrong with my health and that we were 'preparing for the worst' and SD (DD3) was upset because obviously this is the only home she has known her Daddy in.

I think seeing the place, and us talking to them about why we want to do this - downsizing, spending our money wisely, fresh start, etc - has made them feel included and also reassured.

The SOA still stands at 79% because I am too scared to tick completed on some of the sections. H has started his, and we'll compare to make sure the full picture is painted. Tuesday is calling up day - methinks the phone will be hot :p Hoping to get to do it on the same day as each other so we can hold each other up (more like take the rip out of each other :p )

Took a major sleep early this evening - think I have been running on adrenaline and it caught up with me. Feeling very dopey now and plan on getting to bed at a decent hour (well, before it turns to Sunday anyway)

  • MG, your doing famously:T
Pulling together as a family is a great thing, just a shame it takes something like this to make it happen..but 'for better or for worse'

I'm a terrible BR/MSE bore and i will do anything to save a few pennies nowadays. Just wish i'd been as sensible years ago then maybe..just maybe:rolleyes:

Its well worth spending some time really trawlling through the forums on here, 'Up your income' makes me a few quid every few days and the 'money saving old style' is brill. Also the freebies board is fun.

    Continue the good work:T
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Thank you so much BLTN :D

Looks like I didn't make it to bed before Sunday - whoops!!! :p Just letting my brain wind down.

Question : I need to buy a bed for the new house. Will it be frowned upon?

Most definitely not. :) You have to have a bed, & you are far better off getting it now before you go BR rather than try to find the money afterwards. Don't be surprised if you find you need to get other things as well - I know from personal experience that some things seem to be fine until you move them, then they seem to fall apart. The OR will understand that when you move home, expenses are incurred that are both necessary & unavoidable. :)

I can't sleep either - might as well use BBC iPlayer to catch up on some episodes of 'Doctors'. :)

    Sunday 4th May

I'm going to get a decent night's sleep tonight - not dropping off unti after 5 a.m. was not the most sensible thing to do!!

Not done any of the forms or anything today. H has been investigating bus fares, routes, etc for the kids when we move into the rented house. :T I have been trying to source a decent, cheapish divan for me and potentially bunk beds for the girls - the ones they have are over 9 years old and probably woudn't survive another dismantling and putting up

Tomorrow I intend to complete the form from the letting agency - have filled in most of it, but need to to take it to work with me on Tuesday to ask a friend if she woud consider being my reference. She's known me for over nearly four years and I think she would be a good person to ask. :)

Also going through more of the paperwork that is lying around and getting it into folders just to have everything I need in one place. (My inner librarian is chaffing at the bit to get into organising it all :rotfl:)

Regarding cars, if we sold the cars and downsized them now, would the OR think we were trying to pull a swifty? Before all the BR stuff came up, I was contemplating selling my car and getting either one with a smaller engine, or a diesel for cheaper running. I would put any money I made into the rent/deposit/moving fund.

Have filled in so many competition thingies from on here - would be fab to start winning stuff :A

    Nite nite!

Morning merry hope you got a good night.;)
As far as the cars go as long as you do not sell them for under value the OR wil have no problem with that and leave a paper trail of where the money went in case he/she asks!.

Basically just don't try and hide things from the OR (i'm not saying you would!!)

If you've sold it at the "proper" value and used the money for essential expenditure then you should be alright. It's really if you'd sold them then, for example, bought a holiday with anything left over that you'd be in trouble.

By selling them you are reducing your expenditure which is a good thing :)

That's the plan, especially with car tax due for renewal in the near future!!! Will have a proper look at autotrader and see what cars like mine are going for, and what's out there in my price range.

Well I had a lie-in (courtesy of painkillers that worked - bliss), so time to get on with things!! :p
