I've had my Cap 1 card since Sept 07 and only got £300 limit  and that's with a £200 increase. I don't have any adverse credit.

Halifax gave me £1000 straight off ....

Cancel the card and apply for one of their better cards when the account is closed. (You'll get a letter)

When they get your new application they will either give you the card you applied for or another classic with (very likely but not guaranteed) the same credit limit as you had when you cancelled it.

Use it a little and they will increase credit limit on fourth statement.

They've just increased mine to £1100 28 April and I closed the account today 5 May

Will apply for their 0% for 12 months in 3 months time.

I am hoping my limit doesnt get raised again as its a way to get trapped having large limits available.

Contact them via the message service on their website and ask them to lower the limit. I keep the card for the Equifax free credit watch and have got them to reduce the limit to £500.

Well its £500 right now which I will accept (started at £200) but if it goes up again I will do as you said to get it back to £500.

How long do people recommend keeping this card before applying for better cards? I don't have any debts/CCJs etc just building a credit history with it.

I have just checked my last statement and my APR is down 4.56% from 34.9% to 30.340% Still, they haven't persuaded me to borrow from it yet though.

MBNA Standard MasterCard (supposedly easy to get) has an APR of 17.9% and a 1.9%APR balance transfer.
