if you picked a plumber at random from yellow pages i would be cautious , but if he's local or recommended by friends i would have no problems ,

Surely all the secret filming done in 'Rogue trader' etc. on the telly shows what to expect? I imagine the tea will taste a bit funny for a while :(
If those cameras were to follow decent tradesmen (and women!,lol) around they would show the real world of Rogue Customers, who want everything done for free, agree prices then quible, refuse to except your proffessional knowledge, speak to you like a lump of dog doo on the bottom of their shoe, get upset when you have your one and only coffee of the morning forgetting you were at the merchants an hour before they were out of bed and accusing you of tearing their 25 year old threadbare carpet into 5 bits in the main doorway in a house of 5 kids 2dogs and rabid chipmunk!

Im a plasterer and, and quite often get left olone in house when people have only met me when I priced the job.

Although I am seriouisly aimiable and polite ;) and I have a webby with all my details, home number address etc on.

but even so I'm not sure I'd leave someone on their own in my house.

One girl Who had got me off the internet just gave me a key and said come
    round when you want!!!!

    Weird init

  • tbh I tend to leave them to it, if I took a day's leave for every time a tradesman came to our house I wouldn't have much left!
Self employed and loving it :D

Thanks all for your replies - as expected, everything was fine in the end - he did the work promptly, was friendly, reasonably priced, knickers were as I left them that morning and my cup of tea after dinner tasted normal! :rotfl:

I just panicked I think because it was all so last minute, the house was a pigsty and we did not have a chance to check anything about him... I didn't even consider that OH would have just let him in and then left....plus we have only recently moved into our house and I'm a bit of a cautious soul.

The cat was fine - OH had locked her in a room with her litter tray out of the way ;)
