Hypno's "bursting with energy" diary.......

Breathe, ah, that is where I have been going wrong
Thanks for the cake KC x
I have been giving the job thing a lot of thought for OH.......I said to him that because it is his "perfect" job and one he has been secretly wanting to do for several years now, it would be a real shame to let it go, simply because of the money.
So I have said that he has to take responsibility for making up the difference, if he chooses to accept it - how he does this is up to him.......2nd, 3rd 4th jobs.....whatever, but that I am NOT prepared to make up this shortfall myself as I have enough to do with robbing peter to pay paul for the existing shortfalls we have as a family, and trying to make enough extra to pay for the skiing for the kids etc.
The other thing that concerns me is that by rejecting this job, what guarantee is there that anything better comes along in the current job climate - I don't want him to cut off his nose to spite his face, and end up taking a low paid, low satisfaction job when things get desperate, and then regretting turning down this one!
So, he has a lot to think about and I honestly don't know which way he will go. There is no "right" answer at the mo!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Awe Hypno it is very noble of you to think like that and its obvious you want him to be happy. You are right to not take on the extra money making as you do SO much of it already and if your husband is anything like mine he will allow you to take control again. My OH is very hard working as your OH obviously is with his extra jobs etc and mine will do anything I ask of him but the pressures of keeping it all together, moving forward etc is left to me and he relies on me to let him know the score which although I do take this role on at times it is not an easy one!! Went off on a tangent there, hope you know what I mean.
Could your OH take on AQA? Would that be an option to meet the shortfall? Is it a huge shortfall?
KM x0 -
The shortfall is about £12k..... :rotfl:
I don't see him doing AQA or anything similar, but he would put in the hours in another job to make it up.....as he has done many times before.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. 12k mmmm I see why its such a huge decision, I'll keep my fingers crossed that something comes up its obvious to me and from the tone of your posts that its really unsettling you now not knowing what is going to happen as it would most of us.. If he takes the job like you say at least SOME money is coming in rather than none.

So that is £1,000 per month or £231 per week.............0

are there any prospects for him earning more if he takes this job? promotion in the charity? opportunities to do consulting or writing about the work?
I empathise with him as I guess I've made the decision he's facing now - I am self-employed and working mostly for the charity sector, which I love, and accepting that I have lower earnings in return for being passionately involved in my work!
Hypno this is a really basic question which you probably answered on day 1 of your first diary - but have you ever considered downsizing for a while? A three bed house with no garage and no luxury garden cabin? Just for a few years until you move into your forever dream home?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Downsizing - not an option.....if we can't get a credit card, even a vanquis card, we are unlikely to get another mortgage, even if we are applying for less than we have now!
and we have already done the "rent for a while" option before we downsized to where we are now.....
....also, if we downsize, we have no ability to get an income from renting out the spare room, and as that is £128 a week during term time, that is a significant amount of income we would lose......more than we would save in the downsizing!
and another also (!) our house needs lots of money spending on it to get it to a really good condition - the windows are falling out, and with the home information packs about, ours would be flagged up as very energy inefficient as a result......not a good selling prospect!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Gosh that is a hard choice, it's not very often that an 'ideal' job comes along for anyone - it's just a shame that when it does it usually involves other sacrifices. I'm sure whatever he decides that it will all work out for the best xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

I knew you'd have thought it over and have a good reason!
We can't downsize either, for the simple reason we live in the smallest house there is. You couldn't get us in a smaller one without breaking legs.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Plus.....if we moved.....I would have to have a clear out.....and as I haven't managed that in the last few years, how the heck would I manage it now :rotfl:
the biggest reason, though, is that although we have equity in the house, once the debts are paid, that equity does not leave us enough to put a deposit on another house.....and with no such thing as a favourable high loan-to-value mortgage available nowadays, we wouldn't be able to get back on the housing ladder easily. (although, obviously, we would technically be debt free).
Life......humbug
As for your other question re OH doing writing work, consultancy etc.....he is very much a do-er rather than an academic, so anything that needs him to "do" stuff and put in the hours, he is ok on.....ask him to write a letter and he finds it very difficult (although not impossible)........hence the reason I do the sums and the finances and can write great long waffly posts on here.....!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
