Travel insurance?? Yes/no?

Hi there,
My partner is going to Chicago with his boss this Thurs. I assumed that his boss or he would have sorted out travel insurance, but i found out last night that he hasnt got any.
Is it essential? I know that if he is taken poorly, it'll probably cost us thousands, and thats partly why i want him to get some. But i am also worried that they wont treat him if he is taken sick? _pale_
He is insisting he doesnt really need any and that its a waste of money, but if thats so, why do people get it?
He is only going for 3 days. Can i arrange it for him? Can it be done online? How much should it be around? We dont travel so we have no idea how to sort this out!!
Hope some one can help!

Yes you can buy it online. To give you an idea I got a rough quote from http://www.travel-insurance-web.com/ and it came to £12.0

its the thinking of rather safe then sorry
so thats why i opt for it
and considerign it is so cheap due to online insurance providers there is no reason to avoid it0 -
Thanks guys
I will def get him some, i'll use the link you gave me reaper as i have no idea of any other travel insurance provider!
Although i can remember the advert with the lady in the bikini walking off into the sea, but cant remember who the insurance provider was!:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
I did mine online yesterday at the post-office (£15 for 4 days in Prague), Nationwide is good for that too and you print the policy out from there too although more expensive.
Tell him to buy some and then put it on his expenses, only takes a fall and a broken wrist or ankle and he'll be wishing he had bought some.
Post Office upto 3 days worldwide is £16Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Definately get the insurance as any claims in North America could come to a lot of money!
On options - the suggestions above are probably the best. However, if your partner is likely to be travelling 2 or 3 times more over the next 12 months for work or pleasure it might worth checking out an annual policy.
Also, do you have worldwide travel cover with your bank account, as quite a few of the packaged accounts come with it these days?0 -

Where do we start? (though you know all these things already, it's just a case to put towards OH)
a) Flights being delayed/cancelled
b) Bags going missing/delayed
c) Passport/money being stolen
d) Being taken ill - medical treatment in another country is costly, plus the cost of ambulance/ambucopter etc etc.
We've got our travel insurance through the links on this site before. Really really reasonable and you can print off the insurance schedule right away. Make sure that it covers for the bits that your OH needs and doesn't include things like winter sports, unless he's going to be doing that!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -

Travel Insurance is a necessity. I'm surprised though that the company didn't arrange it if it's a work related trip.
Hope he brings you a nice present home Bendybops for caring about him.0 -
Well done Bendy - hope it's a 'waste' of money though. Compared with lots of other insurance, travel is a bit of a bargain these days.0
