You must live in a very low crime area.

I paid £800 first year at 26 years old for a 94 1.3 Skoda Favorit estate. Checked how much it would have been if I was 17 all same details and came up at over £3000. Imagine how much a 2 litre Sierra would have been for me

    Lincolnshire. :rotfl:

I am a girl which helps lower it. I now pay about £250 for a different 2 litre Sierra, I'm now 23 and living in Hertfordshire. Insurance often makes no sense to me, the only reason I have it is because 'tis the law and it protects third parties. No insurance company would pay out for damage to my old car, they'd write it off for a dent in the wing.

Doubt that would happen nowadays, but his/her insurance, his/her car.

I found it slightly unbelievable at the time! Hopefully not true. :D

It's just a case of doing the legwork really - Martin has posted a pyramid thingy whereby you can use the comparison sites in a particular order so that you can cover as many insurance companies as possible in as little time as possible.

Don't be suprised if lots of insurers decline to quote - I've recently insured my first car (a 1.4l Citroen C3), and had loads either not bother, or quote stupid prices. It didn't help that as the main driver I was insuring holding only a provisional license lol. I eventually went with Diamond, who quoted £550 for me and my parents as named drivers, with a £450 excess and free courtesy car cover and handbag cover. I called them on Tuesday as I'd passed my test, and my premium has gone up by £180 over the year, but that's not too bad. Although I am 24, so that will have some effect on my premium I guess.

Also look at Pass Plus - try and get quotes with and without it, it may well be worth the extra outlay.

Good luck to the OPs son :D

My simple answer is Quinn Direct! I have a Renault Clio RXE 1.6 and they were by far the cheapest for me. One thing I did find was they seem to offer the same price no matter what, so if it was a 1.2 engine it still would have been what I got, which is probably quite high as far as 1.2's go. But still they were the best for me and fantastic service.

When I was 17 Kwik Fit said they'd insure me for £2,500! haha, didn't go with them!

Tesco are offering free Karcher jet wash with all new policies plus clubcard points so might be worth looking into.
