There's no simple answer to this other than shop around. Try comparison sites such as confused.com and moneysupermarket. Also consider using quidco too as some of the cash back deals are quite good......0

Male or Female?
If female and small car >£800 if male >£1,200 (maybe substantially more).
Dave hs goven you good pointers but if you don't see some companies:-
Check out RAC, Tesco and Kwik Fit (who were cheapest for my daughter in her first year)0 -
Endsleigh for my daughters first car + cashback from quidco .

Try https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk directly for a quote, I found their quote for me on confused was much higher than I pay. But all you can do is get quote after quote, and remember the easiest thing to change to get cheaper quotes is the car.
Also try adding parents on as named drivers, as this can sometimes reduce the cost.0 -

Unfortunately at this end of the market I doubt they will make going with one company over another particularly worthwhile, although the cashback is worth taking into account in the quotes.0 -
I found directline the least expensive.
follow Martin's car insurance guide to the letter is the only advice I can give.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Shop around. I'm a 20 year old male but for me it's still around the £1200 mark alone.
~MCMySearchFund: £9.79:j
CC Debt: £400 -=-=- Overdraft: £150

Best advice as said before is to shop around for quotes. Add older driver to quote should reduce price somewhat.
I'm looking for my 1st and thus insurance. Had licence for year and few months. Insurance for me at 20 (almost 21) starts at >£1050.0 -
My first car was insured for £1100 in 2003. I was 18 and it was a 16 year old Sierra 2.0i GLS.
One tip which MAY be significant....I watched a TV documentary a couple of years back about insurance for younger drivers. There was a man on it who worked for Direct Line; he said he always quoted less when the driver themselves rang up to enquire and upped the premium if their parents called. He said this was common practice and that he appreciated the youngster doing the legwork themselves.
That's what he said but I don't know how true it is. I guess it only works if the car he is insuring is his own, but if it is your car then you would have to call.0 -

You must live in a very low crime area.
I paid £800 first year at 26 years old for a 94 1.3 Skoda Favorit estate. Checked how much it would have been if I was 17 all same details and came up at over £3000. Imagine how much a 2 litre Sierra would have been for me :eek:Shoshannah wrote: »One tip which MAY be significant....I watched a TV documentary a couple of years back about insurance for younger drivers. Doubt that would happen nowadays, but his/her insurance, his/her car.0
