Buying a PC??

Thinking of buying a laptop or PC??

WAIT...

This Wednesday PC world are launching a 0% "Beat the Credit Crunch" deal on six machines (one is rumoured to be their new Dell 530).

You pay a small deposit in store and then you get 0% finance for 2 years on the full value of the receipt.

Its worth a look at if you are buying a replacement machine.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks

A lot depends on the prices though. If their prices aren't competitiveyou'd be better buying it on a 0% credit card at a cheaper price.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Well you can always take advantage of their price promise deal before you take the credit out!!

    A canny buyer, IMO will:

    1. Avoid PC World at all costs, unless the price really is out-of-this world.
    2. Find better deals on better quality hardware on-line.

I dont know why people slate PC World so much!... i know that their customer service is lousy but if you buy a HP9702 laptop from HP or John Lewis or PC World the parts inside are going to be the same.

Same goes for dell machines. My company bought two pcs one from Dell and one from PC World (same price but no delivery charge from PC World!!!). I took them apart straight away and guess what??? all the parts are like for like - exactly the same ...

I tend to go to PC world to get a hands on look at items that I am interested in, and then make a decision if it is suitable and then buy from somewhere else.:D Normally cheaper.

One thing that grates me is how the staff mis-sell products to unsuspecting customers all the time. Last time I was in there looking at laptops the guy was trying to sell me Norton and Microsoft Office for £150 on top of laptop, telling me it was required products and they were offering at a special price.

Some also don't know much about the product they are selling and make stuff up.

So basically I dont trust them, thus won't part with my money there.

As far as laptops go their prices aren't bad but I'd never buy a desktop from PC World, they completely shaft you on the prices, much cheaper to buy the parts and build it yourself but that tends to be the case regardless of the store.

like i said before - price promise from pretty much all companies is there for a reason now!!!

  • I wouldn't ever consider buying a branded PC from any store. The componants are of a lesser standard than you can buy yourself and they can be very difficult to upgrade (especially Dell's) in the future.

PC World does occasionally have good offers on things, but on the whole they're not a good place to shop.

Really, the parts are the same, in the same machines, how shocking

If you used Dell eValue codes and deals, you'll always beat PC World via Dell direct, and if you ring and speak to the people at Dell, you'll likely to get an even better deal. For other brands, 99% of the time you'll get better prices from on-line retailers, unless PC World are shifting stock or have a special promo.

Why do they get such a slating... Because they have a reputation for mis-selling, pressure selling extended warranties, bad advice, bad service, and more often than not higher prices.

I buy hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of IT gear for businesses and clients a year, plus quite a bit for family and friends. I've used PC World once or twice, once for a business purchase due to a low price on a website, which was nothing but hassle, stock didn't actually exist, they couldn't fulfil the order, and it caused a problem in a project supply chain. Hving tested the shops, the pure lack of knowledge, interest or ability from the staff, leads me to the conclusion, that they should be avoided. My opinion, but shared by a great many.

As for the comparison with John Lewis, in my experience there is no comparison. The service, and often free extended warranties at John Lewis, outweigh lesser retailers, and if there is a problem, they bend over backwards to help. Oh, and they price match.

I've had nothing but excellent service from John Lewis, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

On the other hand, I'd never recommend PC World, or any part of the Dixon Store Group. Again just my opinion though!

well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. i posted this for information and didnt intend to instigate a slanging match. my experience of pcworld differs from yours isofa and even with your "thousands of pounds" of experience it makes no difference to me. i have a similar role but wont disclose what our purchasing power is.

we happily use PCWB as well as Dell, Misco, etc for our needs.

    Anyway,

for anyone who is interested in purchasing a pc from pc world i hope this post helps and will leave this now to whoever wants to fight it out over parts and suppliers.

remember you are the customer so you dont have to but what you dont want to!!!!

as for the higher prices comments that KEEP getting repeated....PRICE PROMISE!!!!!

    THANK YOU
