The government tries to price the motorist off the road yet provides no alternative. Surely they want people to work, contribute to the economy of the UK and pay income tax? People need to travel to work and where public transport is either non-existent or as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, driving is the only option.

Example, I take a 10mile bus ride before 9am I am not allowed to get
a return ticket, but only a single there and a single back.

    A return ticket is £5.00
    A Single is £3.70

    you do the math.

And why is a return ticket 5 pounds and a single 3.70 shouldn't it be
2.50 as thats half of 5 pounds.

Public transport is privatly run these days, has been since Major. Local councils have a limited amount of say.

I am very pleased with my local public transport - 75p to and from Leeds city centre, buses every 10 minutes :D

If things are so good how come in this modern day and age and according to
your outlook, are on the up and up, why the hospitals are so grubby.

Schools are run down, Jobs are low wage, and Society on the
whole is more depressed that ever before.
I think this is a simple difference of pessimist vs optimist. Why don't you visit a hospital and see how clean it is rather than read the Daily Mail - I have never had a bad experience of the NHS. My primary school was run down 10 years ago. Now it is boarded up and a new replacement has been built over the road. My old high school is soon to go too. There were people earning £2-3 an hour before the minimum wage. How can you say we have low wages when the average person is 24% better off now than in 1997? I am not depressed and I'm sure you would be depressed if you were living in a tropical paradise ("too bl**dy hot"/"locals don't speak nuff english" etc.)

Oh Im just soooo happy for you, And dont even start the why dont I stop reading
the daily mail stuff thats really dumb.

Case in point, My sister suffers from Bronchial Systic Fibrosis, went into ward 105
at Frenchay Hospital for treatment, she had to stay in longer from e-coli.

Also I have seen the cleaners who do the cleaning and the water is dark brown to black.

I also had a bad experience in this hospital.http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=849119#post849119

I am a realist. Please tell me where this utopia is in Leeds I must visit
and talk to the upper crust natives.

Upper crust natives? Ha. I live in a council house!

I suppose I must just look at the world from the other way round (glass half full not half empty). I can't imaging being as pessimistic as people like you - a real Victor Meldrew. I am happy, and as far as I am concerned life is good. There is plenty to be happy about these days, just enjoy life and stop whining - it's depressing me - how you must live I cannot imagine.

gizmo, nothing wrong with being an optimist, but you'll learn why complacency is not a good bed-fellow to your optimism, maybe when you are affected by it and lose the choice of being happy or not about it.

Old people are particularly scared at the prospect of going into hospital. That's because they all know (or knew) MRSA victims and fear it will happen to them. Do you know any yet? (old people or MRSA victims?). You will. BTW, older usually means wiser ... something to do with above average cumulative exposure to life's rich pattern, and experience and development of a full compliment of motor skills.

    Good Point peterbaker, Thankyou,
I just hope you feel I wasnt to harsh to gizmo. :o

I live in Leeds and pass two newly-rebuilt schools and a newly built health centre on the short journey to my job - something 10 years ago many people in this area didn't have - now the street is littered with company cars during the night and deserted during the day (aside from the many police community support officers who stroll the streets keeping us crime-free). What is life like like where you live?

Whoo Hoo....lucky for you eh

Try living in the REAL world and take your blinkers off whilst you are on your travels, you never know you might just realise that things aint as good as you seem to think.
