Petrol boycott
Somebody sent me this and I wonder what others think. Impractical or worth a shot?
"We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying £1 a ltr.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
Here's the idea. For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso."

I have made quite clear what I think about these idiots on those pages. It is all very good having a rant about high petorl prices but the whole basis of this plan is stupid and illogical - petrol prices are high because oil prices are high, which is because there is not enough oil in the world. And as for tax, forget about it - where do you suppose the government makes up the lost revenue if it custs tax. Idiots.0 -
The best thing to do is to have a civil uprising about, Petrol Prices, Crime, Wages, Tax, Countryside Issues, Housing, Waste, basically everything.
But none of this will happen as these days you have to be so politically correct do-gooders, you are not allowed to be outspoken or you are labelled a subversive, and we have a spineless prime minister, surrounded by the people who say we shouldn't waste things or use are cars unless absolutey neccessary neither should we do anything in life that we might get enjoyment out of.
And yet all the Fat Cats do the above without a care in the world.
Until we get shot of idiots in the top positions nothing will change.0 -
It's appeared a few times on the discussion boards, and the general feeling is that it wouldn't work. It's no good stopping buying petrol from one or two retailers, the demand would still be the same and it would not encourage anyone to lower prices.
Personally I feel that everyone should stop using their cars one day a week and all pile on to buses and trains. This would cause chaos, and cripple the public transport system. It would possibly make the Goverment think about reducing duty by a few percent, or spending the revenue more wisely on improving public transport.
Problem is that there are too many lazy people in the UK who wouldn't give up their car for a day!0 -
Exactly, and like it or not 95p a litre is now the going rate for diesel. It is supply and demand, simple as - and we're not the most expensive place in the EU for fuel, either. Cars are polluting the environment anyway and if this encourages more people to drive less or in more environmentally friendly ways then good.Vic_980 wrote:Problem is that there are too many lazy people in the UK who wouldn't give up their car for a day!
The government has been offering rebate to people who get an LPG conversion for years and it costs like 35p a litre or something ridiculous like that.
If he doesn't give in to the fuel lobby and lower petrol prices he is called "spineless" by you. If he doesn't give in to the environmentalists and raise fuel prices and restrict car use he is called "spineless" by them (and regularly - "our emissions targets are too insignificant to make a difference" etc.)MR_Skint wrote:and we have a spineless prime minister
He is in a no-win situation.
You'll see I turn up regularly and sympathise with the government/establishment because I can't stand people with stupid arguments. People have been convinced the country has been "going to the dogs" for centuries and look where we are now.0 -
No you are a do-gooder whos sat on the fence, your argument above is invalid if he stopped fussing and got the public transport sorted.0
-
And then you would be happy?? Ten years ago people were raving about unemployment and schools. They are now fixed - we have low unemployment and more and newer schools. So now, people don't care about these things. The government can't fix everything at once becasue doing so would mean raising taxes (and you sure don't want that - do you?)Mr_Skint wrote:No you are a do-gooder whos sat on the fence, your argument above is invalid if he stopped fussing and got the public transport sorted.
And I'm not sat on the fence I'm a Labour member; but I will also stick up for the Tories when people throw the same sort of stupid arguments at them as they do at this government.0 -

Labour, Tory, Lib Dem,
It doesnt matter who as ultimately they will do as they please,
Unemployment and Schools fixed, what planet are you on.
I dont want to be personal but, I mean do you live in a nice house near
a nice school in a prosperous part of the country.
Its just so I can try and figure out where you get this info.

I live in Leeds and pass two newly-rebuilt schools and a newly built health centre on the short journey to my job - something 10 years ago many people in this area didn't have - now the street is littered with company cars during the night and deserted during the day (aside from the many police community support officers who stroll the streets keeping us crime-free). What is life like like where you live?Mr_Skint wrote:Labour, Tory, Lib Dem,

I just get the impression you are one of those pessmistic ("they're all the same/whoever you elect they will screw up the country/it's going to the dogs") ranters who has been saying the same things for decades while the country has been improving around them. Remember, we are the 4th richest country in the world and we enjoy a standard of living envied by the vast majority of the world's population.0 -
The government tries to price the motorist off the road yet provides no alternative. Surely they want people to work, contribute to the economy of the UK and pay income tax? People need to travel to work and where public transport is either non-existent or as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, driving is the only option. This space has been intentionally left blank0

One day you should visit a more deprived area then like some
of the places in Bristol, St Pauls, Lawrence Weston, Knowle West,
Hartcliffe.
I will say some of the people who live in these places are really nice people
and some are scumbags, who just take, take, take,.
If things are so good how come in this modern day and age and according to
your outlook, are on the up and up, why the hospitals are so grubby.
Schools are run down, Jobs are low wage, and Society on the
whole is more depressed that ever before.
Syringes on playing fields, Happy Slapping, Muggings, Street Crime.
Why dont you come and stay with me and my GF and we will
open your eyes to the real Great Britain.0
