If its a decent rate and you dont need the money, why not re-invest the same amount. If its a poor rate of interest, or you need the cash, take it down to the minimum te account stipulates, making sure you retain £100 in the account.

I have to leave £250 in the Stroud & Swindon, paying 2.35%, to keep the account open.

    Thanks

not sure y u have to leave 250.00 in stroud and swindon account , ive never known a time when Stroud +S insisted on any minimum opening balance being maintained on that account. ( if u are referring to classic gold account)

in addition stroud and swindon reduced its minimum operating balance/lowest interest rate tier on its branch instant savings account in april to 100.00+ paying 3.65%, so if u want to free 150.00 and gain slightly higher rate, open a new branch instant savings account ( if u live near a branch, if not phone and say i have a existing account can i open one of those for better rate) transfer 100.00 into the account then close your other account.

Thanks for the info. I will contact Stroud & Swindon again, because I was told on the telephone the minimum I could leave in was £250.

last friday stroud and swindon launched a 6.35% Gross branch instant account ( max 3 withdrawals a year without penalty) min investment 100.00.

best action is to open it with min 100.00 and then close your other account, if u happy to leave 250 in the account now rates are better transfer the balance over from existing account.
