copper tape is on trial around a pot with sunflowers in it, and it seems to be working, they haven't been eaten by slugs and snails:j ..yet!
ones in the ground...gone the night I planted them out:eek:

I would think only on a new raised bed with fresh soil that is slug snail free, otherwise they could tunnel underground and come up the other side of the pipes.
Monty used pipes last year on gardeners world on a new raised bed, but I don't remember the out come, but someone here might.

But I am very impressed with my £4.99 roll from b and q, my sunflowers are now 18" tall, I am going to try a new pot with lettuce this weekend, never been able to grow lettuce taller than an inch!! then it gets munched.

found a packet of poached egg plants and a packet of parsley in the shed this morning, so planted those as well.

Cant believe how good the copper tape is, my sunflowers in pots are 18" tall :j and the ones with out tape have been eaten:rolleyes:
So I have sown some lettuce in pots with tape, I had given up trying years ago due to slugs.

turf roof is also doing well, really starting to knit together nicely now.

off now for a cup of tea....

I finally found room for all the asters and lobelia DS has grown. They needed to go out to make room for my toms to go in the mini greenhouse. Probably be slug supper tonight but hey ho. Thanks to my friendly birds there seem to be very few around at the moment

Was considering making a sortof shelf/bench to go against the wall to put my Hostas on. Have some bits of wood but not enough and some carpentry skills but not great ones! On Saturday I went to the garden centre to look for a pot for one of the hostas and had a look at the decking section before leaving, thinking maybe I should probably ask my dad to make me something. (He's retired and loves a project!) Decided more planning was necessary before parting with cash or commissioning the parent.

On the way home I found two broken garden chairs which, with few nails and some extra wood for support, should be perfect. Money-saving-tastic!

On Sunday I mowed the lawn and planted out flower seedlings. At the time, I worried that the plants were too small, but this morning, they all look very perky.

My mystery geranium (OK, cranesbill for the purists!) has come into bloom. The flowers are similar to Honesty/ money plant, but fancier. I am going to have a very purple garden this summer.

Well I'm shattered, I have so far this month:

Painted the whole fence - one side alone is 60ft long.

    Dug out more borders.

Erected Bamboo Screening on the bottom fence (Upset neighbour now unfortunately - buts its a party fence, so I am entitled to put something up, or so I think).

    Planted lots of wee things.

    Still to do: Clean Patio
    Plant one more border

It still looks as though I haven't done much, but I have hardly stopped.

Gonna clean one of the patio areas just now, gosh that makes me sound as though I have a huge garden, no I don't if you stand still and turn around thats it - you've seen the lot - I will post pics once I've done the other border.

My Camellias only flower head fell off this morning, and it hadn't opened properly, I think my son kicked his football at it:mad: - Kids eh? There is no sign of anymore either, its very young, about 18 months - the Camellia I mean not the Son.

It's damned hard work this gardening business isn't it!!! :o

I don't feel as though I've stopped the last few weeks and I've still got loads to do! I find the weeding very disheartening (and back-breaking!) as they are coming back faster than I can pull them out  I've been to buy some glyphosate this morning to use on areas away from my veggies as I'm struggling just keeping up with the veggie area by hand :(

Sorry to be such a misery but it's all just getting on top of me at the moment and this hot weather isn't helping matters. Been watering everything twice daily and the ground is still bone dry. Thought I'd lost all my PSB seedlings last week but just noticed some new growth emerging so that at least cheered me up a bit this morning :)

A question if I may please? The white sprouting brocolli I planted last autumn is coming on in leaps and bounds and is about 3ft tall now but so far only one plant has produced any "sprouts" to eat, everything else is just producing massive leaves!!! Am I doing something wrong?

what sort of soil do you have? I have tried twice now in my current garden and it dies after 1 year.

Sorry Annie, only just noticed this :o

I don't have a clue what type of soil I have but it seems pretty fertile (judging by the amount of weed that grows!!! ) When it's damp it turns over and breaks up fairly easy and looks and feels lovely, rich dark soil that just runs through your fingers, but when it's dry (like now!!!) it goes a greyish colour and sort of sets on the top like cement, if that makes sense? It's horrible to dig when dry as it's very dusty and clumps into little hard lumps
