looking for non-contract broadband?

Options
My friend just moved into an flat thats stop gap for 6 months.
She needs internet access for work, but is there any way of getting it (on, a BT line i believe) for only 6 months?
Hardware isnt needed and her bandwidth useage isnt huge.

Are there any companies that do this? I guess she'd have to pay for the connection fee, which wouldnt be a huge deal.

The connection charge is likely to cost more than six months ISP subs! Then when you pay the early cancellation fee, it gets even more expensive. For six months low bandwidth use, it may be cheaper to use mobile broadband rather than a landline with it's associated connection and cancellation costs.

    Get a USB Broadband solution.
I've seen a couple of adverts for these recently

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%22usb+broadband%22&meta=

No phone line required either. Getting a phone line might make for a 12 month contract. So a USB broadband might be the easiest way to go.

I am with virgin media broadband (not cable). I am on Plan Two I think. It's one month's notice only.

Available on PAYG. Staples are selling USB modems on 3 for £69.

Worth a check to see if you can get AOL Broadband Wireless Flexi

    NO Minimum term contract
    £29.99 joining fee
£4.99 per month for first 3 months
    £14.99 per month thereafter
FREE wireless kit to get you started
(so basically £15 per month as long as you stay for at least 3 months)

Freeola (entanet reseller) £10 connection, £10 for 1st month, 1 month contract, then £25/month but you can (and i know it has happened recently) migrate at the end of th 1st month to a cheaper reseller (vivaciti etc)/ISP (newnet etc) with 1 month contracts.
    Bargain!

ps. best of all, its not AOL!!!
    :)

How exactly does that help with the £125 BT connection charge and the £70 early cancellation charge?

I used Newnet last year for two months.
It was very good then and the customer service was excellent.

I'm about to sign up for another 6 months now and have asked the Customer Service for some info and it's very poor compared to last year as they haven't bothered replying to three of my emails.

But because it's no contract and the speed was good then I'm willing to give it another go.
