Hi, jeannieblue...I think you missed the point of this thread. ;) I'm not commenting on strike action in Scotland (only suggesting more people might have been filling up this weekend..see the media reports) or the price of diesel in Surrey/rest of the UK. My OH filled up the van (which we have had for 6 years so are very aware of how much diesel constitutes a full tank in all seasons and regardless of the forecourt levels) and according to the pump, the van took several liters more than the actual capacity (according to the manufacturer i.e. Fiat) Several MSErs have posted useful advice for which I am grateful.

Before going to the TS, contact the manager of said filling station and ask him/her when the pumps were last calibrated.
    1. The Trade Measurement Act 1989 requires petrol pumps to operate within a tolerance. This tolerance is stipulated under the National Measurement Act 1960. The tolerance allowable is up to 0.5 per cent either way (on 30 litres that is 150 ml). This means that a pump can "over deliver". Fair Trading is aware that over delivery is more likely to occur as petrol pumps get older. However if the pumps are certified regularly this is prevented.
Hi...do you have a link for the quoted legislation ?... a search on Google using the acts referred to by you came up with Australian legislation:confused: However I did find this very useful site National Weights and Measures Laboratory

    Thanks.

Ooops - sorry - misread and someone mentioned the 'Scottish thingy' earlier on the thread.

When I fill up my car and the pump clicks I then leave it a minute for the fuel to go down and put a bit more in, you can always put a little bit more then what the car says
