The problem here is probably that customers have found these bulbs have not grown properly,or they are past their best to flower, thats why they won't sell them. There is no problem.

thanks for all the replies..Yes I agree with Sssssss (hope I got the spelling right..:D )Some of these companies just send you a here's a voucher and now go away. I would have liked an explanation either from the SA's but even more from Customer Services. If they had explained "why" this had happened.. I would be aware if it happened a second time and not be so surprised!! and the first SA that sold me the item was aware as she was the one that said I could not possibly have them. and why I feel uncomfortable is that you don't expect this to happen when you go shopping or if it does then expect a simple explanation from the SA! Enough of my moan... I am away to spend my gift card !!

if the items are supposedly discontinued, why are they still on the shelves?? someone surely had to do a stock check, to make the price change..?

OK I'm not ranting any more but thanks brightonman123. I just thought thy could have had a better system than this..and yes why were they still on the shelves? One last note here.;) .. the lady behind me in the "getting longer" queue spotted another customer walking about the store with 2 bulb kits and pointed it out to me and the 3 assistants... so I hope the SA's told her she was not allowed to buy them before they went through the till....:naughty:

I think that a product that is advertised at a certain price has to be sold at that price. When I worked at John Lewis someone complained that the advertised price was less than the price she was paying, I got told I had to sell it to the person at the lower price.

The manager then went and quickly removed the advertised price.

But I'm not sure if thats because it was John Lewis or the law :o

You're wrong - by law a shop doesn't have to sell you anything.

Is (was?) just JL policy I'm afraid.
 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Although shops can legally withdraw an item from sale, every time I have gone into a shop and got to the till and found the shelf-edge ticket was showing less than the scanned price (groceries usually),the store has honoured it.

It is illegal for them to advertise it at a lower price and then try and charge you higher there are large fines for doing that kind of thing. If signage is misleading infront of a product then they can be fined for it. I suppose they don't have to sell it to you, like any shop they can refuse a sale but they can't charge the higher price.
