tried the salt DONT DO IT it kills everything including the grass...you have to dig them out no other way round it...just ask a celebrity gardener like alan titchmarch he has his own site...crocus...the roots are quite long sometimes up to 1 and a half feet...:D

This year my lawn has got loads, I would say its too many to dig out.

Can anyone reccomend a treatment that works as there are so many on the market.

    Thanks

Do you have a bulb planter? These can make removing them a little easier. dumping salt onto them apparently does well, or if you choose to use a weedkiller, cut the bottom off a plastic bottle, push into the ground a wee bit and pour on the weedkiller to protect the grass

Take care with the salt remedy. It does work, but the salt will migrate when it rains. You can end up with a lawn that resembles a dalmation dog!

My Lawn was full of weeds and dandelions. I tried using a weed killer, but this only killed some of the dandelions…the rest of them seem to have got bigger and stronger.

The quality of any grass left was terrible and the ground was very bumpy too, so I decided to dig it all out. I tried to be very careful to pull out all the dandelions from the roots, but unfortunately they kept snapping as they go down very deep underground.

I’ve been told that even if a tiny bit of the root remains in the soil, the dandelions will grow back again now im worried i've done all that for nothing.

I plan on laying turf and I need some advice on what to do about the dug up ground in order to eliminate any future dandelion growth from any roots left behind..

Should I use a powerful weed killer on the whole area? Would covering the area for a few months help? Is it best to see if the dandelions grow back and then tackle them one by one before laying any turf?

Any help would be much appreciated

AAAgggghhh the dreaded Dandelion roots. They go deep down and unless you thoroughly dig the gaden over, you will not get rid of them. However......tackle them one by one now. Arm yourself with a knife and tackle each individual, going as deep as you can in the soil to get the root out. You can lay your new turf after that but keep an eye on any young shoot reappearing. Give it then the same knife treatment. As the root tries to get some fresh air to gain strength, you are weakening the little strength they have left and they will eventually disappeared but not entirely as their seeds being airborne you cannot stop them landing "on your turf" :rotfl:. Dandelion can be kept under control but you need to keep a sharp eye on their development. Good luck.

I was given this tip for dandelions years ago and it works very well for me.
Pour some salt into the centre of the plant and in a few days it just shrivels up and dies. Does not seem to damage surrounding grass, at least not on our lawn. Hope this works for you.

I gave my lawn a treatment of Verdone weedkiller and it did the job. Also I have a good inspection of the lawn every time it is cut an pull any suspect leaf or stalk straight out as they start growing.
