Is it possible to buy a new phone online and take your PAC with you ?

Generally, yes. Although the process does depend on what network you're moving to, and it may not be possible with some retailers.

Which e-tailer is the best to use ?

Dial-a-phone supports porting to T-Mobile, Orange, Three, O2 and T-Mobile, but not Vodafone.

Phones4U (and thus mobiles2yourdoor) also doesn't support porting to Vodafone.

You can port to Vodafone if you give your PAC at point of sale through their online store.
