Take out the hard disk from the old computer and put it into the new computer as a slave drive, download a utility called killdisk and install and run it on the slave drive, it will erase it 100%.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

If your old PC has a floppy drive there's no need to move disks around - just download the bootable Killdisk floppy and boot from that directly:

    http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Or better, if it can boot from CD, download the bootable ISO of DBAN and boot from that, as Albertross suggested.

I wasn't sure if you could still get the bootable floppy image, have you got the info on that mate?

Yeah - I had trouble finding it last year, but it seems to be back:

    http://software.lsoft.net/killdisk.zip

Or here if you want the single-step version:

    http://software.lsoft.net/killdiskfloppysetup.exe

Haven't used it recently as DBAN seems to be better for the truly paranoid...
