Absolutely Furious I Could Scream

  • I can write a fab letter stating what happened but backing it up from a legal perspective with the correct wording - not a hope in hell.....!!!!

The TS told me exactly what had to be put in the letter word for word and I was gobsmacked that there was even an Act to cover it.

We are still grinning from ear to ear.

    Thanks everyone yet again.

Which could also be done by using common sense - I am sure that the OP was more than capable of writing a simple letter herself.

Trading Standards do a great job of stating what is blatantly obvious!

    Don't be silly

As the OP has stated herself. She did not even know there was a law to cover this situation (it was not even mentioned on this thread ealier, so I suggest that most of the posters on this thread (including yourself) were not aware of this law in this situation). Trading Standards walked her through what to do next (including wording her letter).

Unfortunately, common sense and the law do not always square with each other. People often find that they are covered much better under consumer law (as in this case), rather than by just common sense. In this case, a letter stating, 'you have not provided the goods I ordered, I want a refund' (maybe better worded, but same meaning) could have been easily ignored.

A letter quoting specific consumer law (Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 that the shop had breached), and mentioning that you were acting on the advice of Trading Standards, will in the majority of cases produce far better/quicker results as it did in this case.

I don't understand what your problem is with recommending people take good advice before they act.

I know i don't post here much but I do read a lot of threads and have come to the conclusion that there are many, many trolls who have nothing better in their lives than to condescend people at every opportunity on an internet forum. dmg24 is one such person.

Nice one OP on getting your money back. Hopefully I'll never be in a similar position (being a man and all :))
