Try the following website for a matrix of scores for nearly every malt whisky on the market! http://www.maltmaniacs.com/matrix/matrix.html

I've a nice bottle of 16 yr old Lagavulin (Port Ellen).. v smoky like many of the islays.. v nicee too :D

I normally order Dalwhinnie/Springbank when I'm out.. or sometimes Talisker.

As for Irish, Black Bush is nice but a lil sweet? and Jamesons is my fav blended whiskEy.

Thank you, it is interesting but slightly lost on me as I do not drink the stuff but hopefully my guests will appreciate what I buy.
Apart from the specialist whiskys, are there any Supermarket ones that are pleaseant to drink for those who are not so particular?

Tesco's is not bad, but avoid Lidl like the plague. Harrods is not bad either, and at least it looks posh.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
  • I love Macallan and I have never had a guest not want another dram !

Lowland malts for subtlety / gentleness
Speyside malts for a huge range of quality malts
Islay malts for a more 'robust' experience !

p.s. i'm just going for a large Macallan now, on its own, no ice. heaven

well I'm not an expert cos I'm very fussy about a single malt - no peat bog varieties for me!
for an everyday blended job I much prefer Bells to Famous Grouse (don't ask me why) however Tescos cheapy whisky with the white label tastes exactly the same as Bells to me. Obviously if your guests prefer Famous Grouse they may not be so impressed!
Big tip though - decant it into the posh bottle so it looks good
