Whiskey Drinkers

My guests at home have just finished my bottle of whiskey so I need to buy a new bottle. I do not know one from another so I would just buy Bells, Johnny Walker or similar.
I remember long ago, Which did a taste comparison and said that the Co-Op whiskey was fantastic. What are the ones from Tesco,Liddl,Asda etc like.
Can anyone recommend a whiskey to me?

Mmmmm, so many Whisky's................
As with all things it's down to personal choice. I have something of an obsession with Islay Whisky. If you're a novice, then I'd suggest something like Bowmore or Bruichladdich both of which are very nice. Or you could try something more adventurous like Ardbeg. It has a distictive 'peatiness' and wonderful 'smoky' quality. If you don't want to spend a fortune, I've found that Supermarkets 'own' ,usually just identified by region, ie Islay, Speyside, Highland to be very good.
Most blended Whisky such as Bells. Teachers etc I find to be rather awful throat burners. If you do go for a blend rather than a single malt, I'd suggest going for Jameson. Irish blended Whiskey (not Whisky!) I find much smoother, presumably due to the 'double distillation' process.
Cheers!

I've just had a bottle of ABERLOUR given to me as a present.
Possibly the nicest whisky I can remember drinking. Could enjoy another right now but all I have left is the container.
In the past I've tried testing the usual Bells/Teachers against Lidl's/Aldi's cheapest and chosen to have the cheapest option but I'd have to think twice about choosing to have 2 bottles of Aldi's cheapest or one bottle of Aberlour. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

It all depends if you are looking lower range or spending a few more quid (bearing in mind that a lower range is often better). Tesco's or Kwik Save for your lower range but if you want to push the boat out then Glenmorangie.0

Springbank 21 year old for me - or any single malt in an emergency

For something different - try Tyrconnell (It's Irish single malt, and very very nice)
Of course both of the above are usually rarer than rocking horse's poo with hens' teethmarks in the UKThere are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Highland Park for Malt.
