Carphone Warehouse insurance mis-sold?

Hello all,
This is a bit stupid on my part, but I'll mention it anyway.
I bought a Nokia N70 (worst phone ever by the way, can't wait to get an iPhone...) in 2006 from Carphone Warehouse and it seems they signed me up for their LifeLine policy at the same time.
I'm not sure why - maybe I was too busy trying to work out the labyrinthine menus of the Nokia to concentrate - but I missed the fact that the policy documents were sent as well, confirming that I have been signed up.
I don't think they told me at the time that I was getting this policy. In fact, the last phone I'd gotten from them I had to cancel the policy on as well (I did at least notice it that time).
I only saw that I was paying the £8.32 a month recently when I saw Carphone Warehouse taking two payments (one for TalkTalk and this other mystery one).
I phoned up and asked what it was, and found out it was this LifeLine insurance policy. I told them I no longer wanted it (the person on the end was a lovely chap actually) and added that really I should get a refund for the two years of insurance I never wanted in the first place. I was also pretty sure I'd cancelled it when on the phone, although I have since looked at my documentation and noticed it was the last phone, not this one.
Anyway, he put it in the system and today I've received a letter telling me my request for a refund has been denied as there is no evidence to suggest I cancelled it.
So, is there any course of action I can take? I certainly didn't request this insurance when I bought the phone so I do have a problem with them assuming I wanted it and then relying on my ineptitude to cancel it myself (I guess they make a lot of money this way).
What do y'all lovely people think? Can I take consumer revenge or am I just another idiot?
Andy

If you are on a cashback scheme with them you will have real bother trying to get the cashback as well.
Fom other posts, I see that this firm (in all their guises) have the lowest customer retention rate in the industry. I wonder why?
