How much?

How much would you say is a good price to pay for a PC with the following specs. (It is brand new from a shop btw)

MSI K9VGM-V VIA K8M90 (AM2)
AMD Athlon 64 LE-1600 2.20GHz (Retail AM2)
Corsair 2GB PC2-6400 XMS2 (2x1GB)
200GB Samsung SpinPoint - 7200RPM - SATA2
AOpen 20X DVDRW - Black - Dual Layer - IDE - OEM
BUILT IN WIRELESS
Mouse and Keyboard

  • Base on the components you've given you could build that machine for around £200, probably less. So in a shop I'd expect to pay £250 to £300 by the time they've added their markup and VAT.

It's not a great machine, what are you going to be using it for?

  • Ok thanks

Well could you suggest a good machine or the best place to buy i machine.
I basically really only need it for everyday use. I want a desktop. I am on it quite alot and run a few various programmes. I really would also like to use it to download and watch movies.

My budget is ideally £250 but i can go to £300. Is this price possible?
Shuttle Barebones look good but are these actually hard to build?

I want XP and dont need a monitor as looking at an LCD which i will use as monitor and TV.

I use my laptop for pretty intense stuff at the moment but it is 3 years old and i am surprised that it works as well as it does considering only 512mb and 60GB Hard Drive

    Thanks for the help
  • Very approx figures as follows:
    MSI K9VGM-V VIA K8M90 £25
    AMD Athlon 64 LE-1600 £35
    Corsair 2GB PC2-6400 £27
    AOpen 20X DVDRW £20
    Samsung SpinPoint £28 (160Gb)

    £135 then + vat

(mouse keyboard - what ever you fancy from £5 to £100)

I think that motherboard has on-board graphics... using VIA Chrome9.
  • There wasn't one listed. You get what you pay for.
Look at Asus or Abit boards
  • Thanks guys, i think i will just forget about that, but could you please look at post 3 and see if you could give any help. Thanks
  • Im confused now as to whether you are planning to build a machine or buying a ready built box?

I want it ready built as i dont have enough time or experience to build one.

I was just enquiring about shuttle pc's becasue they look good but are they hard to fit out?
  • good deals can be had pre-built from the many computer fairs. Dunno how they do it for the prices have seen. www.britishcomputerfairs.com
