Requesting statements

Can you request statements for a closed credit card ?

I need to get old statements from a credit card to check through and highlight some payments made on it.

I read on one of the bank charges threads (although this is nothing to do with claiming charges so just a list of charges is no good to me) that statements do not come under the data protection act.

Does this mean I can't just contact the CC provider and ask for copies of the last six years statements or if I just ask for a list of any charges will they just send the statements anyway?

I believe you can provided the statement you're requesting is not more than 6 years old. Just ring the card issuer and see what they can do for you. The charge is typically five quid per statement.

Yes you can request statements on a closed credit card.

What credit card company is it?

I'd try giving the company a call as they may be able to just process the request over the phone. Even if they can't process it straight away because it's closed or perhaps the details don't show for them anymore etc etc then they'll at least be able to tell you what to do next.

    Thanks both.
The charge is typically five quid per statement.

That's the problem , I'm not sure what statements I need , just know that the payments I'm searching for were made sometime in 2002 , 2003 and 2004 and to request all of them would cost £180.

Maybe try what 's said above and call them but ask for details of charges ( none ) over the last 6 years in the hope they'll just send the full statements out .

If you make a formal request under the Data Protection Act 1998 the absolute most they can charge you is £10 for as many statements as you wish.

So just send them a letter requesting all of your statements from between 2002 and 2004, mention that it's your right under the DPA98 and enclose a cheque for a tenner.
